I want repro hubcaps!
I've looked for blanks...baby moons are out there to be had, but nothing with "the outer rim ridges" that I can find...
Erik, KC has chrome shops, find out what it would cost to have your old ones "unplated, then replated." They can take what's left of the old chrome off, then bead blast them and re-chrome.

You don't want to bead blast them, as although it might take the old chrome off, it will leave micro pits. The surface would have to be polished before re-chroming, which would be fairly easy and straightforward on the flat surfaces, but those edges would be real difficult, and time consuming, which adds a lot of labor to the final charge...$$$

can I win them on slots? :D

I know of two NOS early hubcaps in Las Vega$.

no, they are not for sale...

i bought a set of 5 on ebay a while ago for my 63 stocker. they need some attention, but the rest of the rig is in similar shape so i'm gonna install them just the way the are. paid $200 for em.
i did find another pair at a swapmeet earlier this year and the rear is brand new, although it has some really small rust pitts in it. got em for $60. :grinpimp:

i would think that there are still some out there to be bought. you just have to be patient and let the fingers do the walking.

if somebody is gonna try to make reproductions, modifying an existing cap would be waaaaay less time consuming, easier and much cheaper.

I think I'm going to be able to come up with early hubcaps here in Guatemala. I was down in the area of town where you look for that sort of thing and when I brought out the sample that 3puppies loaned me this summer I had 4 in about 1/2 hour mind you only one was good enough (the others had significant rust on the backside, they were probably doing water catching duty or something like that). They are on the hunt for more though so we'll see what happens.

Is re-chroming a viable plan to bring these back all the way!!

If you find one or two of the fronts, with the hole in the middle, without rust-through, that need a home, let me know. Yes, they could definitely be rechromed.

I need 2+ myself and have shops here that can probably rechrome as well. would offer to help with the chroming if I had caps! ;) best of luck getting more..

I was offered 3 the other day after about 1/2 hour of the guys looking (it's WAY different from the way things are stateside). Anyways, I took one 'cause the other two were not good enough for what I wanted, one had a rust hole and both of the rejects had been beat pretty good. If you still want ones like that let me know and I can tell them I'll take all they find! I've got one lister that has offered to supply the missing parts of my LV so he has priority :) Sorry, but LV stuff can be as tough as the caps to find.

I could use 1 solid cap as i'm missing the spare...

What are you guys using to polish them? I've always used quick glo which is a chrome rust remover.. It does well unless the crome is really bad and had pitted through the chrome...

I'd say get all you can and bring em back.. As long as their not rusted thru your good.

As long as someone will buy them I will but I don't want to bring back what I personally wouldn't use (and cannot sell/trade/barter) that's why the question, "If you want ones even that have been banged up, let me know", and let me know how badly banged up is too bad! I got the no rust through and that was sort of a given anyways.

Ouch!!! And to think I got them for MUCH less!!

I might be wiling to trade for some with the holes in them......

I got a damn near new one on Ebay4 years ago.........$20 :)

also got 5-6 sent to me for free from a cruiserhead.......he was a day from tossing them in the trash.........they are not the best condition but..........f

If I find extras with holes then I'll trade for the number of solid ones I need (one for one). Don't go cutting holes in good ones!!
