Could you please-please take some pics of the sending unit and it's location?
Per Beno, Toyota does not make this temp switch anymore, and I have not been able to find anyone who could supply one. Even a pic would help to maybe find a modern replacement. A really valuable piece of info would be the resistance of the switch--from the connector pin to the case. If you want my gratitude forever, what's the resistance cold, and then when it gets hot(~190 deg F.)?
Thanks,
Gary
My 77 did note have a factory carb cooling fan. I know 78s have them but I'm sure somewhere in 77 they changed over. If I had to guess it is a September or later 77 if you have one. Mine is a Feb 77. I do have a temp sending unit hidden behind the carb. Not sure if it is universal or not. Wish I could be of more help to you.

Hi Gary,

I can take a different picture or better one of the temp sending unit. If you look at post 71 and 82 I believe you can see the temp sending unit in the middle photo. It is gold and will have a green connector when hooked up. The only other temp related sensors my 77 has is on the thermostat...I have a blue screw in sensor that hooks up to vacuum lines. Other than that I dont have any temp sensors. SSCR is doing a 77 build and he does not have a carb fan either. It is possible you have a CA model and not a Federal model.

Let me know if you cant see the pic well enough. And my rig is not running yet...give me a nother couple weeks.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Gary there is another guy that posted on my thread, Thor something, and he also has a 77 with all emission equipment on it and is willing to take photos. You might want to reach out to him.

Mark, looking great, post a couple pics on how your speedo cable is ran please. Also have you bought all your firewall grommets? I would like to steal your part numbers;)

SSCR
I will take a photo today for you of the speedo. Yes I do have new grommets but still had to recycle my choke cable and warm pull grommets as I believe they are NLA. The rest can be sourced new. I have been soaking all my old stuff in armour all type solution to bring them back to life. I did get new grommets for the wiring harness on the driver/passenger side.

Also got new glass made yesterday for the windshield. $90. So hope to have that installed with all the wipe linkage by Sunday night.

Have to do house crap this morning and some painting so it might be later this evening when I get to post any pics.

Yes, it is a Ca. model.
I'll look back at the picks, thanks

I believe posts 71/82 show the temp sending unit to the gauge cluster temp indicator.
This particular thermo-switch for the blower (I'm told) is supposed to be mounted on a bracket near the manifold(just a little aft of the carb).

Yeah, sorry Gary, I just have the heat senders in the head and off the thermostat housing. Although my 40 was a California car all it's life, it does not have the "California" equipment.

It's snowing like mad out post

New Windshield...so I took my slightly scratched but still not bad old windshield into Denver yesterday and had a new one made for $90. I might have to post this as it's own thread as I want some opinions on if I need to remove the gasket and re-install it again. I know the seam is suppose to be in the center bottom of the glass. Mine started out that way but by the time I got everything in its place it had moved 1" so it is slightly off center. Will this matter? My fingers are still sore and bruised from stretching and pulling it yesterday. It might just bug me enough being off I will have to mess with it again. Anyway...maybe I can get this thing put in tomorrow.

SSCR Photos

Don,

Shots of the speedo cable. Hope they help. I still will have to wiggle my brake lines behind the cable or unhook it from the transmission if I have to. But I think you will find it pretty easy to install. I would recommend NOT hooking it up to the transmission while you are messing with it. The cable is rigid enough that if will limit your movement. I did it the hard way.

In the other photo is where I need your help. Below my fuel fill area is where a hole is suppose to be in the body for a metal tube to come up from below. I believe it hooks into the charcoal canister. I need to know about how big of hole to drill and where the hole come out under the body as it looks to go down through the support beam of the bed.

Once I drill that hole I can get ripping on the fuel tank and lines.

Thank you

Mark

We're supposed to get 6-10" inches tonight, but I'll be out there tomorrow and will snap some photos. Don't forget to post in Woytivich TEQ badge thread, if he gets enough interest he will run another batch!

If you want to remove that snow after it's done I'd get after it right quick - this cold front is gonna kill people . We're under a wind chill warning as well as the storm warnings now . Got about 2" already and still coming hard with the winds starting to pick up . Gonna hibernate in the shop next few days , lol ...
Build is looking great , btw.

I think we got over a foot of snow

Sarge,

I live in the mountains...I have a 32" professional grade blower. It loves this stuff. And its kind of fun to operate. I cleared everything in about an hour. Looking forward to doing a little snow wheeling in the morning. Not in the 40 of course...it's not running yet.

Stay warm.

You mountain folks get all the fun , lol . I use an old Wheel Horse with either the 42" blower or blade , for something built in 1967 it's almost unstoppable other than the old 12hp Kohler is getting pretty weak and tired . The comment was for SSCR as he's not too far from me , I'm west of him about 100 miles . Problem we have here is the dumb Prairie effect of the wind and cold . Today's late snow was initially wet , now the temp will drop like a rock and the winds kick in from up north so it gets pretty ugly . I've worked with guys that have come down here from Montana and Wyoming and they complain they can't keep warm , it's odd for sure .

Love the detail on your build , hope to tackle mine to that level one day .

Looking outstanding... Keep up the nice work...!!

Sarge just got done shoveling......again. I tell the wife if I'm not back in 45 minutes just call an ambulance ;) Mark I emailed you photos of that hole, a hard line does go up through there and run forward to the charcoal canister.

Bored.

So I am not putting the factory radio back in the 40. So I searched and found this radio delete plate on ebay. It is a reproduction plate and I've never seen a real one...so who cares. I just slapped it in there...looks like I need to fine tune it a little bit but its freezing outside right now so it will have to wait.

Stay tuned for glass install and buttoning up the windshield frame then the gas tank.

So it's time for another update. I have been long over due, but I have some good excuses. We brought home twin boys today so my life is getting more complicated every day. Since my last post in January I have installed a new windshield and gasket, my wiper linkage and wiper motor. I also installed my tranny hump with new gaskets, as well as my transmission shifter with new seals and shifter boots. I also installed my fill neck, gas fill door and assorted hardware. I installed my rear wire harness, front heater, defrost ducts and soon....gas tank, tank cover and hook up fuel lines. Then I need to attach the brake booster and install the e brake handle and button up the brake and clutch pedals.
