My arms were bent and worn, and not actually keeping the blades pressed up against the glass. New ones from cruiserparts were expensive and would require shipping - OEM from toyota same deal.
Did some digging and found that 80 series arms are known to work with 60's. I then started looking for ones that were compatible with 80's. I got the suggestion to check 4Runner arms, and toddled off to the local parts yard.
I pulled mine off of a 97 4Runner. It took a 12mm socket and a small pocketknife.
Here's the write up with pictures on putting it back on my rig .
1. Use pocket knife on donor vehicle to remove the plastic nut cover cap. Place in pocket.
2. Use 12mm socket or wrench to remove nut.
3. If (as I had the luck of) it isn't rusted or gunked in place, gentle side to side movement will release the arm from the windshield motor mount.
4. Repeat for the other side. The 4Runner arms use the "J" style attachment on the front two - the rear uses the same odd screw on type as my 84. Needless to say, it's still there on the donor vehicle.
Ok. Now to the fun part with pictures.
1. Remove your existing wiper arm. Flip up the nut cover, and use the same 12mm wrench or socket to remove the nut. As you can see in the picture, they are about the same length.
2. Install the new wiper arm on the bolt. Antiseize if you live in a place where that would be nice, would be a good idea.
3. Thread the nut from the donor vehicle onto the bolt shaft. Note that it is slightly different size than the original (see picture - shiny = new from donor). Also the plastic nut cover is in this photo.
4. If you wish, place nice new rubber on wiper arm, in the usual fashion. I had to as the ones on there were completely rotted away.
5. Repeat for the other side.
Its that easy. Cost for me was $10.00 EACH for the arms, and $7.00 for the new blade assemblies - inserts would be about 3 bucks cheaper. They worked fine for test, will be having monsoons here pretty quick, will report back if I had to put my old ones back on.
The blades I picked up were 16", but you could easily put in 17", and maybe even 18"s. YMMV.
