I've searched everywhere but can't find instructions for the life of me. Anyone have a link for instructions on replacing the VSV without removing the intake? I've read that it's possible but my Google-foo is failing me!

I didn't do a write up, but I did replace the vsv for the egr without removing the intake. I did however leave the old one in place and may have extended a vacuum hoses. Installed the new one connecting it to the intake support rod near the dipstick. The hardest part was getting the harness out of the old vsv to connect to the new one. No wire extensions required. Take your phone and get some pictures from underneath the intake. If you take enough you'll have some that show where everything is.

I seem to recall seeing where someone was able to unbolt the VSV from below the truck using like 4 or 5 1/4" socket extensions and a universal joint or two. I do not recall if they were able to secure the replacement in the original location, or just used a more easily accessible nearby bolt as Funner describes above.

This is on my list of to do items as well. No smog inspections in MO for pre '96 vehicles (mine is a '95), so I've been less than motivated to get the part (which I've had for like 4 years) replaced.

Good luck!

I know it's possible because I've done it twice. Unfortunately, I don't know of any instructions on the net to point at. I recall laying on ground and getting at the fastener(s).

I replaced mine without pulling the manifold. It can be done.

I'm not talking about the switch, I'm talking about the bi-metal VSV that requires a wrench.

I thought that was called the TSV thermal switching valve

Does anyone know where the pipe goes from this little tube on my carbon canister …. I thought it went to bi metal bcc then to manifold but I can’t recall …. Any help appreciated 76 fj40
