Did you have your transmission at the normal height when you removed the TC?Interesting, I didnāt have to do anything for my removal except for leaving the transmissions low at around 2 in and supported on a jack stand. Then used the small HF transmission lift to support the tcase. Proceeded then to knock it with the mallet and 2x4 to loosen and wriggle things free. First time was toughest to remove. It was easier the second time.

I am in Memphis and working this weekend. I was hoping you were a little closer. Have you tried a bass drift or hammer to try and separate them?I am in Jackson
Be careful with brass though as it is still harder than aluminum and can gouge it - but definitely better than steelI am in Memphis and working this weekend. I was hoping you were a little closer. Have you tried a bass drift or hammer to try and separate them?
When replacing the oil seal on the transmission output shaft, is it correct to assume that I should remove the five bolts shown in this picture and then remove the entire retainer containing the oil seal from the output shaft? Also, do you know the tightening torque (for the five bolts) when reattaching the retainer to the transmission after installing a new oil seal?
I was planning on removing those five bolts because Iām doing the same thing. Iām not sure what the torque spec is. Hopefully someone can answer that.
Were you able to detach the transfer case from the transmission? I'm planning to do a similar job in two weeks, so I'm rooting for you to successfully complete the work you're currently doing. I am so close. Everything is disconnected and the transfer case is lose. I just canāt see to get it all the way off. I went and picked up the harbor freight transmission jack that was recommended earlier along with a rubber mallet. Iāll be trying tomorrow. Hopefully Iāll have it by then lol. Were you able to detach the transfer case from the transmission? When you had the Jack under the TC. Was it providing any support. In other words was the HF Jack lifting it up at or just underneath for support. No, I had lowered it about 2in.
I had it definitely under for support, put some towels on it, had very mild āpressureā. But nearly none as you donāt want it to create lift. Itās just needed to rest there. Then strap it down. I recommend more straps though in case it tries to roll on you like mine did. When you had the Jack under the TC. Was it providing any support. Speaking from the perspective of someone who is about to perform the actual work, specifically the separation of the transmission and transfer case, I'd say that the best way to separate the TM and TF is to keep them horizontal, centered on their joint surfaces.I had it definitely under for support, put some towels on it, had very mild āpressureā. I got it off today. Itās all about the correct angle. Also as someone mentioned earlier. Itās nice to have a car a little higher so you can just wheel it out really easily. Itās also pretty heavy lol.Correct, I think thatās why the HB freight jack was nice when I did this as it moved smoothly back as I wriggled it apart. Would be harder to do that with a floor jack unless you oriented inline and not from the side, or did the set-up that others have done with the built bracket that better supports the tcase. I didnāt have that, nor weld, so I went with the other jack and it worked great
