:wrench:OK, got around to stripping the floorboards on the 74 today.......few rust pin holes on the PS...... etched with the rustbullet metal prep:) BUT on the DS...the removal of the tar like toyota undermatting is an absolute PITA:frown:, power tools including wire brush; flapper wheels, stripper wheels just bounce off this junk; tired of the old hammer chisel technique as are the neighbors :bang:and open to ideas.......TIA

I had the best luck with dry ice, then used a plastic chisel to get underneath and pop most of it up. Too bad I only did that on the last third! As for the little bits left over, wd-40 or goof-off work well to dissolve it once its thin, but I've been using a dull plastic chisel to knock off the larger chunks. I keep the chisel pointed almost but not quite straight down, so when I strike it with a hammer it scrapes off the tar but leaves behind the paint. Good luck!

undermatting removal + dry ice

well; bought some dry ice and honestly did not see a great improvement......maybe the day was too hot........80ish....think the chips were slightly bigger but still had to hit them with a chisel and hammer till had to give it up 'cause of neighbors/noise:hhmm: about 80% done anyway; will wire wheel it when completet; hit with rust bullets etching....... then rust bullets and rattle can the floor........... then Lowe's version of Dynamat, then cover with the remanents of the original carpeting :steer: as much as I hate that %#@*:">+^%$ undermatting; it did protect the Drivers side from the corrosion seen on the Passengers side!

I got pissed at mine and hit it with an air chisel. It came up pretty well. I think if you were gonna be repainting it anyway aircraft stripper might work well.
