Sold my ’92 FJ80 back in 2006, and honestly, I still regret it.
At the time, grad school was starting and I needed the money more than I needed a Land Cruiser, so it was the responsible move. Still doesn’t make it hurt less.
It was a 1992 FJ80 — not perfect, but solid, honest, and one of those trucks that always felt like it had more character than anything newer I’ve owned since. Looking back, I probably underestimated how hard they’d get to replace, and how much I’d miss owning something that simple, durable, and built with that kind of mechanical confidence.
Funny how some vehicles come and go, and some stay with you long after they’re gone. That one definitely stayed.
Now, my kids are getting drivers licenses and I’m buying old fj80s. Perhaps I’ll keep this one and they can have a Kia.
