After thoroughly checking all all the paperwork that came with my piggie and talking to the PO who checked with the PO before him I have come to the conclusion mine is a 69 not a 68 as I was under the impression it was.

There are not tags on it of any kind to help with this determination so a 1969 FJ55 it is.

My previous thread was labelled 1968 so this will replace that which is here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/201678-68-pig-build-2.html

Howdy! Can you pull the VIN off the PS frame horn to figure out what year it is, or won't that work on the early Piggies? John

Not always a gurantee for various reasons, but check on the rear tail light lenses. It's surprising how accurate that can be for the year. With cruisers changing mid stream it doesn't always help a lot, but I went and looked at a piggie a while back and the tail lights and the actual year were the same.

So post up some pics! Sometimes we can tell the year(s) just by looking at it.

I hadn't thought of looking at the taillights, judging from the bondo I suspect they've been replaced a few times but worth a look.

Okay Pighead, here's some pics.

John, that is what told me I have a 77 frame. ;)

No VIN # on the body, anywhere. It was retitled so has an Arizona VIN instead.
Howdy! So does your new Az VIN start with "FJ55######, in the traditional format( is it the frame number?), or did they just dream up one? Supposedly, Az goes by frame number as opposed to body number, but most of the DMV employees don't even know that it is stamped on the frame horn. John

It used the 1969 that AZ titled it as which is what appears to be correct. I was convinced by a couple pig owners that it was a 68 because of the front turn signals. I have since seen a number of 69's with them as well so I'm guessing the registration is correct. Both 68 & 69 apparently had the side mounted signals.

I don't really know what to use to determine the exact year, the turn signals indicate very early, the frame is a 77 as well as the firewall from what I've been told here. In all reality it's like Pigheads signature: "Well it's a '68, '69, '70, '71, '72, '73, '74, '75, 76, '77 FJ55"

Well, at least they didn't call it a 77. You will never need more than a PVC setup at worst, if it ever needs to pass emissions somewhere. It sounds good to me. What really counts is that it is one more Piggy on the road/trail. Yea Rah Team!!!! John

The only condition I placed on the PO was a passing emissions for me to buy it. I don't need another one until I sell it so all's good, my heirs can deal with that.

Yeah, it's not real important what year it is, it's on the road and hopefully it won't be long before it's on the trail.

Seriously my VIN plate was replaced by a sticker with the AZ registration number. I have no idea what it's all about and have no real concern at this point. It's legal and it's registered and officially a 1969...

...good enough for me.

Chris; what brake master cyl set up do you have?............boosted?, unboosted?; understand you have the 69 firewall; do you still have the single circuit brake masteron it?; TIA:cheers:
