Sin, you need orange tires dude.

I was thinking the same thing Mac !

Right now, I keep having to re-apply mud from Utah on my tires weekly to give it that "look"... :D

Plus I would save a LOT in gas ( I always forget to bring extra sand home with me, so I keep driving out there to get my tires orange again) ! :frown:

I have no problem with the old or the new, like 'em all. only thing I don't like are all the bad attitudes;p . But remember things like... it's called an FJ Cruiser, not a LAND Cruiser. And, maybe you should be a little proud that they liked some of the old Cruiser features. And, don't forget, this was not going to be a production vehicle, but there was sooo much feedback from people wanting one that Toyota gave the go ahead. Doesn't mean eveyone will like them, but they are what they are.

This kind of reminds me of riding my motorcycle. I wave to ALL other riders, but there are a few that don't wave back because 'I'm not on a Harley'. Pretty sad. Who cares!! They should be happy there is another person that likes to ride. I will wave at my fellow cruiser friends...even the ones that think mine is not worthy, for whatever reason.

This could just be a great reason to get more people into the thing you all love so much!

Stepping off my soap box now......

i love that attitude and there was someone else on here that i totally agree with. For todays suvs with all the leather and special features and everything the cruiser IS today's version of the utilitarian truck.

what other suv of today has those three little offroad gauge pods( forgot what they all do lol) , shorter wheelbase and wider truck than anything i know. extremely good tire and undercarriage clearance. I just sat in my first one last week with my friend that owns a jeep ( even he said he was considering maybe getting one someday) and asked him to pop the hood. It actually looks really simple to work on. I was ( to say the least) very impressed. Definatly not better than my baby but if I had no choice but to get any new 4x4 on the market todday i would get the fj cruiser. Oh and it had lockers and sooo many goodies.

sorry long post...

but it has so many options most 4x4s don't have and i heard its fast... i will see for myself soon though:D

Well maybe it's time for you old timers to educate us.

What do the 80s and 100s have in common with the classic FJs, which allows them the right to the sacred "landcruiser" appelet?

They were designed as Cruisers using Cruiser parts. There is nothing they share in common with other Toyota models (other than an engine or transmission from a bus). The engine (up until that doofy V8), transmission, transfer case, axles, and frame were all designed as LAND CRUISER.

Honestly, this starts spliting hairs between the Prado and 90 series, but they are the same as the FJ Cruiser- designed off the Hilux platform using Hilux parts. Other than a birfield, there isn't anything outside of the body that is shared between the two trucks. The FJC wasn't purpose designed other than to fill a niche- something to take a few more dollars from Dailmer-Chrysler

This does not mean it is a bad truck, not by any means. But just because it's fat and bloated- I mean, because it's ugly-err... because it's got a bezel doesn't make it a Land Cruiser.

well said, you also forgot the part where the fjc started life merely as a one off concept vehicle. that enough people thought looked cool, so here we are.

where the fj.....erra bj's started out as a military contract.

still not saying it's bad, just that it's not a Land Cruiser.

I'd be willing to bet that "Land" was left off to try and maintain the elite image and customer base of the current Land Cruiser model. Hell, you don't see a LC model that is a sister to the Lexus GX470 (Prado, 90 or 120 series IIRC). It all boils down to $$$. If Toyota called it an FJ-whatever Land Cruiser, does anyone honestly think that you'd be able to buy one in the mid 20's?

Whatever model floats your boat is ok with me. I don't expect Poser to part ways with the big red rig and go out build up an 80 or a 100, they can't do what his 40 can do. I will agree with Steve that the FJC is a little far removed from the 40 it is meant to recollect.

This whole coversation sounds an awful lot like the cruiser/rocket/trailie and Jap/American motorcycle conversations. In the end who cares what you drive or ride so long as you're out there giving it a go. There will be FJC's on the trail, maybe not as many as those here would like to see but time will tell. I recall the days of yore when everyone said any mini truck after 85 was useless, we see where that is now. At any rate give some of the owners some time, there will be ones that wave and want to know what they can do.

Back to the wave thing ..... In my 40 the only people that wave drive Jeeps. BTW I might see six or so pre 62 series Land Cruisers on the road in a year. And only about 2 a year come into my work.

I'm a soon to be owner of the FJC. Honestly I did not know much about the heritage of the model until I started researchng my purchase. My previous vehicle was a 95 4Runner, which was the greatest vehicle I have ever owned. The reason I went with the FJC was because I can not go back to a car and I wanted to stick with Toyota. I wanted to buy fairly new (I don't want to have to worry about repacing things for a while) and although my first choice would have been a 4Runner, they are priced way out of my league. The FJC was reasonably priced and seemingly offers a nice balance between off and on road capabilities. I am by no means a mudder, but I do take my vehicle in 4X4 terrains often because I enjoy hiking, camping, and mountain biking. I was reluctant to buy an FJC due to the percieved trendiness it might convey and the market it would attract, but I hope that it holds up as a respected vehicle in the 4X4 world, and ultimately placed the order. As for the topic at hand: I have always acknowledged those with a passion for off-roading as indicated by their trucks with a jealous gawk.

Had a 78-40, still own a 93-80 clocking 220k, and would probably happily body dammage a brand new FJC before its first oil change like I did to my brand new taco (RIP) and my brand new 4runner (RIP), with all that said, toyota 4 wheel drives will steadily take the abuse from me and that is saying a lot. I have absolutely no mercy on any 4WD vehicle at 230 in the morning reaching for a bottle of jack smoking a cigarette somewhere on the silver mountain. If the fjc will put up with me it will be a true testiment to its greatness. I am scrounging up stock as we speak to make it reality.

I Doubt there will be much recognition from the 1st owners of these FJ's.
Of the eight we have sold here only one new FJ owner ever even owned a Toyota 4WD before.
Seem to be being purchased because they look cool and differant.
This fact is fine with me because much like the purchase of an 80 in a couple of years we will be able to purchase a pretty nice trail rig from these people as they unload them for the next neat thing on the market.

Personally, I would think this to be the opposite. Toyota has not yet started their national marketing camaign, so one would expect most of the purchases within the first few weeks to be made by hardcore cruiser guys that have been waiting 3 years for this rig to come out - such as myself. I love my new FJ, but I would not compare it or trade it for my 40 or 80.
