Why did Toyota drop the "LAND" word? And called it FJ Cruiser.

truth be told, it's not a Land Cruiser, despite toyota linking it to the Land Cruiser.

My rule of thumb, I don't wave at anything newer than 1990. The only reason I do this is because I usually get a blank stare from 80 series on up.

On the other hand, if it is a "built up" 80 or 100 series, I'll wave.

As far as the FJC goes, I would be waving at 16 year old high school girls all day. The only ones I have seen down here sport Roxy stickers and Kelly Clarkson blasting from the stereo.

frankly I think its more landcruiser than the landcruiser, which is now a very expensive SUV competing with the equally expensive Range Rover.

Take an innocent bystander, show him/her an FJ40 and ask which of these two 2007 models is closest?
Landcruiser or FJC?

Why don't they call the FJC an LC? Because they already have SUV which stole the name. ;)

Every now and again a thread like this starts as a legitimate question only to have a bunch of people start bashing ("Rav4", "such a poor vehicle devoid of any real connection to its roots", etc.)
Again, I think you're slightly exagerating what you consider to be "bashing." After you've read a couple hundred (thousand?) threads on MUD, you'll quickly pick up on the fact that much, if not most, of the dialogue is good ol' fashioned fun. In other words, if you can't handle the ribbing around here, you won't last long. But hey, you're going to see that in ANY tight-knit brotherhood/sisterhood group like MUD. Yep, we're a bunch of jerks at times. And, we're proud of it. :flipoff2:

As far as a legitimate thread turned bash-fest, I'm the one who started it. And, I think it's remained right on course.

do you think 40 owners waved when they were new?
Yes. We did. And, had you been there 40 years ago, I would've waved at you, too. :D

Now the question is...could you buy an FJC for what you paid for that sweet FJ25 you got on ebay....:D

that thing is gorgeous..

Haha, I love that pic. Now where's the modern day one that belongs next to it? My hat's off to ya man, long time cruiserhead keepin it real. :grinpimp:

Time will tell all.

My 80 aint too modded (yet), but it is usually sportin' trail dirt on top of it's scratched finish. Most other LC drivers around here don't wave (snobby town), but if you talk to them, they are into the quality and reliability and "tanklike feeling". They recognize the reasons for owning a LC. They just don't realize that they have become part of a cult.

The FJC discussion reminds me of when I owned a BMW 2002. The newer 320i was the target of derision then. The 2002s owned by enthusiasts were heavily modded, some were capable of scaring the bejesus out of Porsches and New Corvettes (below 100 mph). The new ones were improved over the old STOCK ones. Personally, I often said that one wasn't a real BMW driver if there weren't tools and spares in the trunk.

People who can go down and write a check for the latest and greatest will always have some sh1t-catching dues to pay from those that build up the old ones.

I am looking forward to meeting an F/J Cruiser driver...OUT ON A TOUGH TRAIL !

I will then give THEM the full thumbs-up and friendly wave that they deserve ;)

Sincity-

With 33s and IFS you are probably in the same league as a FJC with a couple inch lift. Same trails at least.

Didn't we just have a post about good natured fun. I would consider my post in the spirit of that.

Heh Heh.... It`s all good ;)

Besides..I am sure its just a matter of time before some hotshot in a FJC shows me (and my heavy tank) up on a hill climb or obstacle-strewn trail .. :frown:

I doubt that. I'd say the majority of people currently driving FJ Cruisers sadly have no idea of what's being said here in the real Land Cruiser world.

Yeah but who is to say they even care? ;)
