Partsouq can match the alternator by part no. if you don't have the VIN from the donor. PayPal, shipping is as quick as CONUS, and prices are the same as US with shipping that I've seen..had really good luck using their site..double check your part numbers because returning is a biotch.. if you can rebuild a knuckle you can rebuild the alternator..understood that you didn't ask opinions on rebuilding DIY, just .02 might be easier / quicker to DIY than finding a good shop and shipping etc.

that being said what are the list of parts one would always want to replace when "rebuilding" an alternator? I know the brushes and the voltage regulator but what else? appreciate the help.

From what I understand from the couple I have rebuilt, not much. If the rotor and coil are cashed out then you'll be in it at least $100 a piece for ea. part. The misc. nuts, screws, washers are so cheap it's worth it IMO to get those shipped with what you'll really need, bearings, and brushes. To that end the whole thing could be in spec. I dunno if we have a Seq FSM here, but I would attempt to locate and spec the whole thing out and get a parts list, compare cost of DIY and etc. If it's in good condition you could replace the brushes and bearings, and misc. hardware for as little as $50 easy. Shipping extra of course. I was a fearin' the alt., PS pump, and vacuum pump DIY rebuild, and couldn't believe how easy it was to do, vs. how much rebuilt units cost.

I took mine apart to look. Pretty much just needed a brush. Bearings were in fine shape. Be careful with the rubber coating on the coils.

thx guys, I could not pull it up on the partsouq site but was able to pull up a limited diagram on the toyota of dallas site. It did not show a voltage regulator. Not sure how often those go bad? I have had a VR go bad and it causes major problems which is why I would like to replace it. I think however I will just buy the bearings and brushes.

update: was able to find the part # for the regulator!

New DENSO ALTERNATOR'S REGULATORS IN6015 for 126600-0150,230-52118,VRH2005-91

so I am guessing if I take apart, replace bearings, regulator and brushes it should be as good as new. Does anyone have reccomendations on what to clean the body of the alternator with? I have a can of electronics cleaner I guess I will use along with some rags and q tips.
