My '74 Pig has a broken rear window (thanks to vandals who broke it while the Piggy was on the side of the interstate )

It is shattered, but is held together by window tint.

Is window replacement a pretty cut & dry procedure? I am a little nervous that once I roll down the rear window to lower the tailgate the window will just disintegrate.

Has anyone just gotten flat stock at a windshield shop to replace the rear windows in these Piggies?

Thanks!

Just make sure the glass you get is tempered safety glass rated for automotive use! Replacing the rear window is not hard. When we got the '55 the rear window was down and the motor wiring was disconnected BEHIND the glass!! I could not even access the clips that hold the window runner in place. I ended up wrapping a rope around each end of the glass and pulling it out of the channel!!

Remember though, there are clips that hold the channel in place so you CAN remove the channel easily to replace the broken glass.

I have one sitting in my garage, would have to make a small crate for it.............

Can send you the measurements of the one I have spare; I think it will be easier to have a local shop cut new glass then to ship one and then you don't have to worry about a shipping company break it. Local shop can do it cheaply usually. A general glass shop that handles cars as well is best...not someone who is focussed only on auto glass (less $$$ anyway)

I measured a replacement window:

18 1/8" x 43 3/16"

As best as I can tell the glass is flat and square! Should be o-k to get replacement at a glass shop.

Following the old carpenters rule (measure twice cut once---usually get that backwards) on my spare in the rafters from a 7/70: length (as yours) 43 3/16 inch. width (dif) 18 1/16 inch: Thicknes 0.211 inch/5.37 mm.

Now on my 7/75 the PO for some reason has a double pane (?????) at 0.268 inches/ 6.28 mm. Kind of academic I'd guess- though the window on the 7/75 kicks some speed going down and drags a nominal amount up.

And flat (did not run a straight edge on it though) edges beveled, corners moderately rounded (of course).
