OK, so it turns out that when I tightened the bolt, the dizzy slipped about a degree too advanced. I now have it at about 10 degrees btdc and it runs great with no pinging.
I'll drive into the city tomorrow to see how she behaves.
Update; Drove it to work and back, 150-mile rt. Drives great. Having air con also helps up here in the summers!
