I wanted to put some padding on the bottom, as an errantly tossed object could leave a dent in the tailgate skin. I considered DynaMat, foam, etc. and landed on a cheap and effective solution - a rubber shower mat. It's waterproof, the rubber suction cups provide a nice cushion, and $8 delivered to my door by Amazon.
