So I have searched the heck out of the old threads and havent found an exact answer to my problem. My rear left shock has disconnected form my 1981 BJ60. I went and got the listed bolt etc and it does not fit. It seems that the pipe or pin must be broken because I can't see a way to attack it. The other size is attacked in a different way than the parts diagrams show. I have attached some pics of both sides. Anyone know how I should proceed from here. THANKS!

That looks like it was repaired once before and now it has broken a second time.

Your choices are to replace the entire cross bar with a straight schedule 40 pipe. Or grind off that welded bolt hex and drill out the mess to an even larger hole. Then weld either a bushing or bracket to it. Picture below shows how a guy fixed mine. I now use bigger bolts to hold the shock. Has held for 20 years of bouncy dirt roads.

Thanks! With the way you did it, what have you used to attach the shock to your new mount?

Big bolt goes through everything. Nylock nut with a washer holds it in place.

In the future, saturate the inside of the cross pipe regularly with some sort of corrosion preventative spray. Not WD40.

Awesome and I'm guessing a bushing on the outside of the bolt..? Do auto shops do this kind of work or do I need to find a welder? (last dumb question I promise)
