Well as the thread says Locker engaged fine this morning and now it's stuck on and cannot get it to disengage. Tried all the common techniques, figures 8 driving in S shapes, forward backward 4wd on 4wd off... And drove the car 50km home with the stuck locker. Both wheels turn the same way one on axle stand so locker is still engaged and light on dash is permanently on.

So now my rear diff is locked. Any idea on how I can manually disengage it??

And my apologies if there is already a thread somewhere but cannot be able to find one...

Cheers

Franz

Update, I removed the sensor and disengaged the lock manually but it will keep on coming back and locking the diff again. Going to check if there is any power to the motor.

update 2, the 9v battery trick worked to unlock the diff. This is what I found, I can lock the diff with the on board factory switch but for some reason it does not give the input to unlock the locker... Again does anyone know what might cause this?? the ECU??

id start with the easiest things first. make sure all the contacts in the switch are clean but that's all ive got, maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

Yep all contacts are spotless... Thing is it uses the same two contacts for locking and unlocking so I wonder why locking is done effortlessly and unlocking is non existent....

Get a meter and start working backward. Measure the switch and measure the wiring at the motor. If it's not either of those, it's something in between =)

@nukegoat if the switch works one way I don't think there is a problem on the wiring since it uses the same pins for both locking and unlocking.

@landtank that would make more sense. I removed the cover and somehow the whole main gear came attached to it and I saw those contacts. Then I put everything back quickly as I was scared the spring would shoot out. What should I be looking for in those contacts and how would I attempt to fix them.

here is a thread I did on rebuilding these. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/locker-actuator-rebuild.551069/ . with the forum change the photos have been reduced in size. But you can see how to clean the contact plate on the gear and the leaf springs that contact it. Personally I'd pull it out and rebuild it. Ajik offers a seal kit which has everything to do the job.

Landtank thanks for the writeup, looks simple enough. The thing is that the inside of the locker casing is spotless! No rust, no signs of corrosion just like after you rebuilt them... I heard about the horror stories on these and when I opened it up yesterday I was surprised in how clean it was! I will open it up again to have a closer look at the leaf spring contact with more calm, but at first glance yesterday they did seem very clean to me.
Sorry for the questions but if the contacts were bad why would it work one way and then fail to work the other way round??? That what still puzzles me!

there are 3 contacts, a common ground, and then 1 for each direction. The one for rotating the motor in reverse is probably not making a good contact with the plate on the back of the gear. Clean that plate and the contacts well, apply a little conductive grease and maybe bend the leaf springs a little to ensure good contact.

Follow the thread for timing everything and you should be OK.

Did you get anywhere? I've just run into the same issue.
