Those METRIC calipers as they are known in the streetrod and racing world are also available with cable actuated parking brake feature. Avaliable from Cadillac applications just cant remember what model or year. Speedway motors lists them in there streetrod catalog. As for the rotors they are from a 87 to 95 Chevy 1/2 ton 4wd truck you just have to have the ID opened to clear front hub or rear axle flange. Ive been running this Homemade set up for years and havent worried about drum wheel cylinders since.

You have a PM.

Steve,
GM parts are NOT plentiful in my neck of the woods but Toyota stuff is. I have a '80 BJ40 with stock front disks and rear drums on a rear FF axle. Could I run your brackets over my rear FF axle and hook up the same rotors and calipers to them that I run in the stock front setup? If so, P/M me, you got yourself a bracket, hose, manual proportioning valve and tombstone clip sale.
Cheers,
John

These brackets are not compatible with full-float Land Cruiser rear axles or Land Cruiser calipers....

If you cut up a set of small patern knuckles you can bolt them on to the axle to hold stock calipers.. Not sure where theres a thread on it though. Definately the way to go on a FF.

A quick search revealed a link from Poser... Rear Full Floater Disk Brake Conversion

Flyinglow,
Thanks. I actually have read that thread several times and have a printed copy. What I was looking for was a better solution that having to aquire a set of knuckles and cut them. Hence my interest in the Poser brackets. The kits that have brackets for FF axles tend to have them for larger wheeel sizes. In the end I think that I'll need to find a set of large patttern knuckles for my 1980, I have large pattern knuckles up front, cut them down and make brackets.
Thanks,
John

After not finding anything out of place there and no drama with the wheel bearings or wear surface on the axle shafts, I installed new axle seals, slid the axle shafts back into the housing and put everything in the rear differential housing back together, and filled with oil. I then bolted the caliper brackets onto the axle and slid the rotors onto the end of the axle shafts and retained them with a couple lug nuts for the time being.

Does anyone know the Toyota part number for these axle seals?

1958 - 08/73 rear axle seal - 90311-47029

09/73 - 08/92 rear axle seal - 90311-47001

Thread resurrection for some pertinent info. Anyone have a torque spec for the bolts holding the bracket to the axle? According to the FSM and the number on the head it's somewhere around 16 lbs. Seems a little light.

You talking about these charts? Which bolt is it?

Fine thread 10mm with a 4 stamped on the head. The bolts that came with the brackets have a 4h not 4t though.

(edit 4f maybe, hard to tell with my crappy eyes)

Yes, but there engineered so we don't have any problem with registration, there also laser cut. Its like the full fibreglass body I have, unless its approved you cannot have it. No different to the bucket seats we use, unless they are ADR approved you cannot register the vehicle, same for the steering wheel, minimum size is 350mm diameter, the list goes on. Someone has to sign off on the changes, if something goes wrong there held liable.

Everything here has to been engineered for road use and be signed off with a Blue Plate and then inspected by Queensland Main Roads Dept, off road and not registered is fine, but if your caught driving it on the road your in trouble.

Also the maximum lift here is 2" after that it has to be engineered, Blue Plated and inspected. I see Qld Machinery booking people all day long on the beach with un-approved changes. They make you park the vehicle and won't let you drive it home in some cases.

Plus I can use any Toyota caliper with this kit, means spare parts is not a problem.
