Rear Bumper Sliders? (1 Viewer)

A curious thought occurred to me while installing an LRA sub-tank recently...

One of the most constraining factors off-roading is the departure angle of the 200-series. With it's long rear overhang past the rear tires.

Could an effective rear bumper slider be made for the 200-series platform? Something low profile and lightweight that could protect the rear tupperwear. While still looking good and not detract from the overall look. Hardcore rock crawlers would still want to go full rear bumper. But perhaps for the average enthusiast?

Perhaps it's an ugly and terrible idea. Just tossing this out there. @benc , @TRAIL TAILOR

There's not a lot of examples out there, but an idea.
Have you found something interesting to protect rear bumper?

Haven't found anything yet. I don't particularly look for difficulty in my off-road travels, rather I like to overland to get to more remote spots. AHC has really helped in that it jacks the car sky high and clearance generally isn't an issue, unless I'm actually looking for ledges to drop off of.

Willie G - that's definitely something that could help. Wouldn't protect the corners of the bumper, but may be enough for a bit extra insurance? I've seen a couple flavors of those on Tacoma's.

"Patton" skid:

Also saw a long stinger type custom made by a Tacoma guy but can't find it at the moment.

Wonder if a hitch skid like that, then tied into wings or tubular bars that could be bolted to convenient brackets at the frame corners could work?

I found what I was thinking of.. from Kaymar. Looks like you cut up the stock bumper then install this as a lower panel, and it appears mostly stock but takes a lot more abuse.

Good look around 5:30

^That's actually pretty awesome and I didn't know they existed. I like the more integrated/OEM style of it too. Wonder how much they weigh.

Looks like some US owners were able to get these imported in the past.

Yeah, I was watching videos and didn't even realize that wasn't stock until he set it down on the thing and it didn't cave like my tupperware would have. Immediately thought that's the direction I'd go if I do anything to the rear, given my mild build/use plans.

It actually looks like you gain a bit of clearance in the back too.. notice the exhaust hanging down further than with a stock bumper.

I just emailed them to see if there is a distributor in the US. Nothing obvious on their site about US sourcing.

I'll relay whatever they tell me.

Rob/Budbuilt can get you them if you're on the east coast, Cruiser Brothers on the west.

My buddy had this made for his T4R, you could always find a local fab shop to do something similar ( I plan on making one like this once I have my hands on a 200).

Came across @Nitro-gear 's latest beast of a 200-series photo's.

Not sure what's he's done to the rear bumper, or if it's only paint? Tried to find more pics but this is all I could find. Either way, I think it gives an idea of the concept. A minimalist rear bumper or slider, could look great setup like this. Ties in really well with the side sliders and tow hitch.

I think there's ample opportunity here for a product like this that adds rear tupperwear protection without the full gonzo commitment or weight of a full on rear bumper?

Looks like they trimmed the stock bumper, and it looks great
