Looking for some insight here, 2017 land cruiser, 84k miles

Having a weird screech when turning left, (replace brakes 10k miles ago, but i think this is due to the parking brake shoe) took the entire brake assembly apart and inspected/cleaned out. Brakes and rotors are still immaculate. Which leads me to believe it is the parking brake shoe assembly that is causing this issue.

(Also makes a very similar noise when driving straight and hitting the parking brake, readjusted everything last night, and ordered new parking brake shoes in hope to fix it, but until they arrive i wanted to post here to see if anyone has had a similar issue and what the did to remedy this. its driving me insane lol.

Thanks All!

Have much corrosion?

The rear brake backing plates are known to puff up and rub on the brake disk/drum assembly.

nothing crazy, what makes me believe it is the parking brake shoe is it makes the same sounds when you pull the brake lever, but it is odd that it is making this noise when also turning left, for a test i looseded the parking brake adjuster and drove around, it made the the noise 10x worse

Check for any scratch / witness marks on the backing plates, if you decide to take the rotors off to inspect. As Bloc mentioned, the backing plates are a notorious source of friction.

didnt see any when i had the rotors off yesterday. Disassembled everything including the parking brake shoe assembly to try to see if there was any dirt, rocks, or mud put it back together and the noise is still marching on..

Stock rotors or aftermarket?

I seem to remember some aftermarket parts rubbing the backing plate and causing this issue.

powerstop rotors in the rear, Installed 10k miles ago, (weird how it is just now doing it) I am going to pull off again and thoroughly inspect the backing plate. Found this thread and sound from his video is identical to mine, and his was a backing plate issue.

Will update my findings, thanks for the suggestions gents.

It’s probably the backing plate like everyone is suggesting: Find somewhere saf me where you can recreate this noise and see what happens when you engage the parking brake a little. Does the noise change?

If that results in no change, try doing the same thing as above but using only the service brakes.

If there’s no change after trying one of those, I’d suspect the backing plate, or a wheel bearing.

Noise is similar with the parking brake engaged as well
