Hello there I'm in the middle of the described job in the title and feeling that the water pump matching surface it's not as smooth as I would like.

Would be the OEM gasket enough or its advisable like coat of FIPG? View attachment 1472653

comments are appreciated ..

thanks

David

Get a scraper razor blade and clean those surfaces up well being careful not to gouge the aluminum surface on the head (if the head is even aluminum, looks a little red to me on the left).. then follow with a light stainless wire brush.

After that I don't think you need, and I wouldn't use FIPG, personally.

Thanks for replies.. Ende with a razor blade and more razor blade plus wire brush plus sand paper and just OEM gasket.. When I was almost done discover an small leak on my rad ( most likely an involuntary hit from my fight with he timing gear) Big bloomer to say the least.. So that water pump test will need to wait a couple of extra days..
