Real high oil pressure

Wait on the Marvel Mystery oil. Leave everything the same and lets fix the weird oil pressure reading. The only way you are going to know whats up for sure is to get a second gauge on there. You could have a bad gauge, sender, gauge cluster problem, clogged passage. To answer another of your questions, you can run the engine valve cover off with almost no oil splatter but the rockers should get oily.

I did not purchase the pressure gauge yet but did find and read another thread about plugging the wire to the wrong sending unit....which I believe I may have done. However, I am now questioning where the oil pressure sending unit is? I thought one of the 2 on the head was the oil sender but found antifreeze in both. Is this a problem or are both temp. senders?

I've looked for photos with no luck.

Thanks,

John

A bad oil pressure sending unit usually pegs the stock pressure guage to the high side. Happened to me. Like poser said, intall a good manual guage and see what you have then. Good luck

Where is the sending unit? I hope the photo uploads.

Let me know what 1 and 2 are and if one is the oil or where the oil sender is.

Thanks,

John

Sending unit should be on the drivers side of the block if I remember right. I put a T there and ran the stock as well as a manual guage. Good luck.

The sender was on the underside of the oil filter mount on the driver's side on the 78 2F I was looking at last night.

Is the wire to it hooked up to the center, that ok. If its hooked up to the side lug you have fried your gauge. MIke

1978 stock sending unit would not have the ground lug on the body, MIke....

Oil temp sending unit

Im installing a new oil temp sender and was wondering if I should put some type of sealer or teflon tape on it? Dumb question I know but dont want to take a chance.

Thanks :hillbilly:

The sender needs a good electrical ground through the threads..I don't use tape for that reason.
