Loved seeing this on the trails at the CRAWL a few weeks back. Color/Grafic combo is fantastic. Is it an '85??
Thanks guys for the compliments . I don't want to take away from the thread of everyone posting pictures of their trucks so I'll keep this short. With the help of the wife we painted it / applied the decals to it at home in the carport.Nothing high dollar but lots of fun to tinker with. Just a paint scheme I had seen a long time ago and really liked.

That's so great! I have a magazine ad from 77 or 78 that shows a "Idea Truck" (I think) with locking hubs!I hope your build goes well, but I'm almost leaning towards you leaving it as it is, because I've never seen a pre-79 factory conversion till now... Seems like a rare beast.
Well I would but the frame is in such bad shape that it's non repairable. The bed is to the point that it can't be fixed. This was my grandpa's truck so I'm going to repair what needs to be done to the cab and put it on a custom or newer model short wheel base frame and get it to where she's safe to drive again. I'm keeping all the original drivetrain and such in it... 20r power! W50 5speed with a custom aluminum tailshaft housing to bolt the cj5 dana20 to it, Dana 30 front axle and the 5 lug Toyota rear end. I'll start a thread for the "puppy" as it was named one night out 4wheelin and drinking
According to his sig line it looks like it's an '87 w/ a SAS.
I agree, the paint/decals look great.

rance I love those 1rst gen trucks. I have a 79 sitting behind my shop its in pretty bad shape but I have everything to put it together just dont have the time.

more of a restore than build up, no original bolt on body panels and tons of rust repair on the tub. rebuilt engine. new to me freshened up interior. still a work in progress.
just picked her up, not sure on plans. it will be a DD for now . she is 100% stock , even has the original radio. 91 SR5
