I got in on this way late, but some words from me ( I am a licensed used car dealer in Texas.)

What I get out of your post is that, contrary to most of the other opinions, it may have been a reasonable decision to buy the truck anyway, perhaps at a renegotiated price and of course with written disclosure of the unknown mileage.

I had an almost identical situation but with a $23,000 LX470. When I went to get my money back the guy said "I'm glad you didn't want to keep it 'cos I have it on eBay and I just sold it for $1500 more."

Incidentally, this was not a hicks friend from NC, this was a high street dealer in San Clemente, a very fashionable southern Californian town.

I think its a case-by-case thing. In my case, all of DFW had JUST seen our local ambulance chasing spy journalist Marty Griffin bust a used car dealer odometer scam wide open. So I literally extorted the guy telling him that if he didn't agree to give me the truck, I'd call Marty and the OAG.

If you are in the middle of a deal and this happens, then by all means, weigh the options. You just have to make sure YOU disclose it upon resale.
