Hey guys,

My 45 did not come with a radio...it was removed; there is an open "hole" were the radio used to be.
Suggestions??

Should I go back with factory radio (for "original" reasons)?

Can one be found?

Or, should I just get an aftermarket one and enjoy mp3?

What 'cha think??

What is the description of the 1976 factory cutout for this radio??

Cheers!

Eddie:

Many of them did not come with a radio, just he cutout in the dash for one. If your dash is uncut--don't cut it.

I personally would not install a new radio in that spot, because it just looks wrong to me. I would consider buying a new, but "old looking" radio in there though. (or just nothing, or a useful wheeling radio like a 2M HAM or CB)

It's YOUR truck, that's what I think. What do YOU want? Me personally, I love to have tunes on the road, and I drive my 45 a LOT. I had no qualms about putting an Alpine stereo in my HJ before I drove it to Wyoming. Made the drive MUCH nicer.

As Dan said, virtually no stereo will fit in the stock hole, so most people think twice about enlarging the hole for a modern stereo. It may have some effect on resale value, but not enough IMO to forgo it.

If it was a 60s vintage truck with no factory cutout, my opinion would be different.;)

I have a 80's tape AM/FM/Cassette player in mine. It has a LCD readout and a seek function, which is nice when I travel away from my city. You need to get a 2 knob style and it needs to be fairly shallow. I kept the stock plug in, which you may or may not have. I recently picked up a stock radio from a mid-80's 60, but have not installed it yet. I am hoping it fits nice. I believe that all Toyota radios from the 70's were the same size and shape.

I can use a FM ipod converter if I need tunes beyond the radio.
