Hello everyone I’m new here. I have a 97 Lx450 I wired in a aftermarket CarPlay stereo but I’m having some trouble. The harness connectors they have for sale I don’t think they’d work for the wiring loom I have which is the s16 style. There is a form on here from 2016 or so and the guy explained which wires went to what so I spliced into each wire I got the two power the ground and all of the speaker + side wires but he didn’t say what wires are for all the - side speaker wires. What’s confusing is I had some sound it was crappy but it was there but then it went away. Do I need to unplug the amp or? Much appreciated

You will have to unplug the factory amp (right side behind the glove box area). Also, when I did mine I got a metra kit (believe the part#70-1761) that precluded the need to splice a bunch of wires - yes you will need to solder some connections but it makes the install much easier.

If you installed and turned on prior to disconnecting the factory amp, I would check the dome light fuse (under hood) to see if it was blown.

I would check out Youtube for videos, I know @rmgarage and Texasknowhow did pretty decent stereo/audio upgrade videos in the past.

Ok when I unlplug the amp the stereo cuts off or doesn’t turn on. What could I have done wrong?

The amp can't simply be unplugged, it needs to be bypassed. The stock setup was: radio > amp > speakers. The Metra harness mentioned above allows you to go: (new) radio > speakers. Beginning at the radio you won't utilize any factory wiring until you plug into the speaker connectors near the amp.
The leads on the Metra harness will be too short to go from your new radio directly to the speaker connections at the amp, which is why @Brindleboxer mentioned soldering.

oh ok i thought that might've been what i needed to do. so which wires are for which speakers from the harness that plugs into the amp? I will run wire from the stereo wires to the amp harness/ speakers

I would suggest watching some of the radio install video on Youtube and see where you may have went wrong. If that doesn't result in success, you may have to try troubleshooting the wiring and testing the various "circuits".

Another solution may be to search using your favorite search engine and enter: Ih8mud 80 series radio install. The internal search function is lacking so when I need to find things this is the process I use.

Edit: @jonheld provided a great resource as usual.

Yeah that was the thing there’s no videos with the same setup in the lx
