Just curious about the RUCA design. What is that block in the middle of the shaft?

Its a wrench flat. The uppers can be adjusted while installed on the vehicle without removing a bolt and dropping an end to adjust length. Plus it acts as a backup to set the jam nuts.

Are they reversed threaded at the ends so it works like a turnbuckle, or same threaded? I seriously doubt it could actually happen in this application, but I wouldn't want it "backing out" to the point of altering alignment.

Yes, turnbuckle style. I or Currie have never seen one back out 3" of threads of each or either end.
