I'm installing my new OME suspension and I'm wondering which spring goes where.

I've got the rear mounted but the front two I'm confused about. I'm guessing the driver side is slightly stiffer than the other to accommodate the extra weight of the driver, but I can't tell which is which. One is marked with an 'O', the other with an 'I'.

Any info on this is appreciated.

From Cruiser Outfitters:

"What do the +,o,- marks on my spring mean?

OME/Dakar spring will often have a +, o, or a - painted on one end of the leaf spring, so what does that mean? The + means slightly over spec, and when we say slightly it wasn't enough to consider the spring an error rather it is by design. The o is exactly at spec and the - slightly below spec, again by design. As the drivers side of a vehicle often has more weight, its common to use a + on the drivers side and a o or a - on the passenger side. Or, a o on the drivers side and a - on the passenger. The total difference side to side is likely just 1/8"-1/4" but it can be just the right amount to level the vehicle. This is particularly important when A and B springs are not offered such as many of the newer spring applications."

Clue, the arrows DO NOT indicate front. :)

Thank you very much for the info! However this has got me very worried:

"Clue, the arrows DO NOT indicate front. :)"

What do they indicate then? I installed the rear springs with the arrows facing forward since I thought that was the only reasonable thing they could mean.

Arrows point to the fixed end of the spring. On the rear, coincidentally that is towards the front. On the front springs, unless your 40 is modified, the fixed hanger is towards the rear.

you'll typically find the springs will only work in the correct orientation as the centre bolts are usually offset towards one end of the spring

Yup you got lucky with the rears! I unfortunately didn't have the wonderful info from Cruiser Outfitters and installed the fronts with the arrows facing forward. I got to install them twice. Extra practice I guess... :(. Nice of OME to provide instructions with their kits. Oh that's right they don't.

I did the same thing. Looking back, I should have thought to ask what the markings meant, but everyone was closed and I wanted them on. I need to work on patience.

Awesome! Very relieved to hear I don't have to redo the rear. Thanks for the info everyone!

I did the OME springs recently. Definitely put the spring marked with the O on the drivers side. I knew about the arrow towards fixed hanger, but was not told about the + - O. My rear springs both had +, so lucky there. Front springs had a + and -. Not knowing, I put the + on the passenger side and - on drivers. When done the 40 was low on the drivers side a noticeable amount. Then I went on the cruiseroutfitters site and found the info on the markings. I just went ahead and swapped the two front right then. Was a quick deal since I had just done everything. About an hour to move them. Didn't even take off the wheels. After the swap the 40 sits level. The engine is more to the drivers side and maybe that is the main factor when it is sitting with no person inside.
