Hey all,
I had some questions regarding a Pig I found for sale locally. I sold my 40 before I moved back to AZ, and have been thinking about getting a piggie since I now have two kiddos.

I found a 72 locally and looked at it. Basically the bad part is the body, it has rust in the following areas: drivers side rear lower fender, both rockers, passenger front fender behind the wheel, passenger front door has a small rust hole, and passenger floor pan at the body mount. The body also has been hit on all four corners, and had multiple large dents on the roof from someones roof rack that was used without a floor in it. The truck has been sitting for three years, and e drivers side door latch has been cut out of it. It also has a bad clutch slave, and all the lights are cracked or shattered, but all window glass is intact except the rear gate?

The good things it has going for it is it has dual tanks, and a three year old rebuild on the 2f that someone swapped in. The floor pans are as nice as any I have send, except for the passenger side, and the tranny (3spd), t case, and the briefs had new seals put in when the engine was done.

Where I am torn is it's in ok shape rust wise, especially compared to what I dealt with on my forty. However I am looking for a build able trail rig I can drive on the road easily, that being said I am not sure a 72 is the best option for me as I despise working on the drums. Also the body work part scares me, given this thing has been hit on every side. The catch is the guy only wants 800 for the rig.

So my question is am I off my rockers for thinking about walking away? I am definitely not looking forward to doing a disk conversion, and deal with body issues given I have so little free time , but part of me thinks i am stupid for turning this thing down for the price, as my thoughts were to hold out for a 76+....

If I do pass I will be more than happy to pass the info along.

Thanks
Joe

Pass. If a disc conversion scares you, wait for a '76. Shouldn't be that hard to find something low-rust in Az...

Wow, ONLY $800? Sounds like a rip off. Wait it out for something better, or offer $100 and use it for parts.

Yeah, I offered a bit less. The rust isn't that bad, but then again I grew up with cruisers in Michigan... The brake conversion doesn't scare me exactly, its more along the the lines of my work schedule, 70 hour weeks with two kiddos doesn't leave much time for a piggie with tons of problems. I am still thinking about it due to the lack of emission controls. Living in Maricopa county sucks sometimes!

rebuilt 2f doesn't mean squat if it's been sitting for three years. seals are probably dry and will leak, could be rust in the cylinders/lower engine area, if it's rebuilt, why is it sitting.

that's a parts rig that if you get running and driving great, but it will take a lot of work to make it up to par with a daily driving pig. $500 at most.

disc brake conversion is a one day thing to install and would fit right in with standard front end maintenance and a brake line flush, so no big deal there, but missing emissions stuff makes it worth even less than $500 if you live in an e-test county.

You are right, I will let this bloody thing go. I shouldn't let Pig fever get me into trouble! Thanks for the advice guys
