Search did not answer my question so here goes:

I‘m replacing the front engine crank seal on my 96 Fzj80
In looking at the harmonic balancer I pulled off, there is a slight groove forming where the seal rides.
Other than that, the balancer has no known issues and spins true.

Here’s the setup to the question:
I have a different balancer from a different 80 series I parted out.
The surface on this other one is in much batter shape……

SO, Can I just swap it in and use it instead of my grooved one?
The engine the replacement came from was running fine except for headgasket grenaded.
Can’t recall the mileage but it wasn’t obscene, somewhere around 200k.

If the rubber looks good, seal surface is good and condition seems acceptable is there any issue with a swap?
I‘m not in a hurry to go buy a new one if a used unit with known history is sitting in a parts pile…
Am I making a mistake in this thinking>?

Cheers & thanks for any help.
Trying to wrap this up tomorrow so hopefully someone here knows.

If the rubber is good, not oil soaked and soft, and not crispy and broken, and the sealing surface is in good shape, then YES! Use it! As long as it is from a 1FZ-FE.......

Agreed use it.
I would say when I was replacing my front main seal mine had the same issue and the fact that the rubber is at least 25 years old I wanted to replace it.
But its NLA
It is available as a LX 450 as of a few weeks ago so it might be worth getting one while you can !

I got one through PartsOuq but that was a couple years ago.

$229 now on Partsouq, buy it before it goes up again.

FWIW I checked the price of the Dorman Harmonic Balancer from O'Reillys that was only ~$70 a little over two years ago, it's now over it's $300 but out of stock there.. Other online stores have the Dorman part (identical to the OEM part) for over $500, but also out of stock. Point is, there's no reason not to buy the OEM Balancer/Crank Pulley (13470-66030) from Partsouq at that price.
