Good looking truck.

(...but that chrome door handle needs to be black!).

Got to leave a little “LX” trim on it.

:)

Cheers

The crew over @Delta VS are finishing up on the 70, still got to spool up the winch line and they are making a bracket/plate to remote mount the control box for the 9.5XPS under the hood. But.........here are a few pics.

These a more a step than a slider but are built to take the weight of the truck. They bolt on.

Just like the front bumper, these are about DD use and function rather than off-road performance. With all my builds I take the use of the truck and the owner into heavy consideration in how the truck should be set up. If this truck was going to be used for a lot of off-roading it would be built differently. For what the owner is going to use this Cruiser for I think it will work very well for him.

Thanks again to @Delta VS they have done excellent work for me and been a real pleasure to work with.

Cheers

Although not every modification made to this PZJ70 is of my own personal taste, I know the owner must be very happy with the end result of all the work done on it.

Pictures are great and all but the real deal is to drive it. I have driven new 70-series and this old goat I got to say drives as good as any of those. It is also quieter since Toyota didn’t do much sound deadening on 70’s and this truck is pretty heavily laden with Dynamat.

I still have some things to deal with when the truck comes back to me next week but it is getting closer by the day to being finished.

Cheers

That's a good looking truck... seeing these swb 70-series trucks sometimes gets me thinking of selling my 40. Sometimes.

Need to wash and wax it. Need to take it to the hills for some testing.

Hopefully the next round of pics will be out in the Bush where it belongs.

Cheers

I guess I didn’t post a picture of this yet.

So we had to swap the 9.5xps to an M8000. This was due to the drum on the 9.5 being to offset and not lining up well with the fairlead. Since the winch cage and winch it’s self is mounted dead center between the frame rails (which is obviously best) we were limited on options.

I am a big fan of remote mounting the control box on winches. I am just not a fan of a big ugly control box sitting out there on a beautiful bumper. @Delta VS built the bracket and remote mounted the control box where I wanted it.

Of course we would have rather kept the 9.5xps but to be honest, the winch is for any emergency recovery that may be needed. Meaning, it won’t get used much but it’s there when needed.

Cheers

I have had a number of things I needed to sit down and do some research on, figure out options and make some decisions.

Ever since I got the drawers for the back of the truck I knew speakers in the side panels were not going to work. Now the owner of the truck doesn't need no rockin' system but he wants something. I have already got some 4" or 4.25" (don't recall exact size) in the dash but they are not much more than a tweeter. Sure I could do some in the doors, even get the new door panel that has integrated pods built in. This truck has never had speakers in the doors though, wiring would not be ideal for that. Plus with nothing else, all the sound would be up front and door speakers are going to be down low. Lets face it, we are dealing with a square box here when it comes to sound. So from the beginning I wanted to mount something up high in the back corners of the cargo area. Small as possible but still give good sound. I think I have decided I am going with these.

JL Audio VeX™ Speaker System (Black)

Going to double check some measurements tomorrow before buying.

For some time now I have also been thinking about how to run the wire up to the rear LED that is being mounted on the roof rack. If we were running a snorkel I would probably just run it up that to the roof rack, but we are not running a snorkel. There is no real good way to get the wire up there, not that I have come up with. I don't want any wires hanging anywhere inside or out and I am not into stuffing wires behind weather stripping or window seals. I have been looking and looking for a way to pass the wire through the body in a clean and water tight manner. Well, I think I have decided I am going to use one of these.

I am going to run the wire up the C pillar and probably pop it out on the roof above the drip rail. Depending on how well the product is and seals up I may or may not use some silicone on it but I shouldn't have to use much if any. It means I got to drill a hole in the body and it means I probably am going to have to pull the headliner back both I would rather not do but to keep it clean I have not come up with anything else.

Well, this very nice HDJ81 is out of the shop for the moment. It has gotten a whole slew of things done to it in the last few weeks like...all new suspension including Delta arms and Panhard bracket, all new brakes including OEM remanned calipers, new control arm bushings and hardware throughout, new seat belts, Trekboxx installed, fixed A/C and turbo lights, rebuilt front axle, new wiper arms and blades all around, timed it, rebuilt the steering, sway bars all rebuilt and more.

It’s out of the shop for now though while I wait for parts and this lovely little Cruiser is back in for its final round in the build before it goes home. :)

Little update.

The steering box has always been a little sloppy in this truck. I sent it off to West Texas Off-road as seen earlier in the thread. Thing is they just clean and reseal. After getting the box and steering all in the truck I went at adjusting the box to try and get the play out. It got to the point where if I adjusted it anymore the truck started pulling to one side and there was still slop.

The owner didn’t like it, don’t blame him. He was given options and it was decided to go with a new box from Toyota. So I got the new box and installed it the other day.

Of course, it is like new now and pretty outstanding.

Front driveline has also gone back in and I took it for a 50 mile test drive, the growl is gone. My DL shop says it was the ujoints I supplied, which seems odd but with their ujoints in it the growl is gone and that’s all I really care about. It didn’t need a DC shaft after all it seems.

Just dialed in the headlights and front LED. So here we go....

LED only, this by the way is a Rigid defused flood in the 10” variety.

This is low beams and LED. In case you missed it in the build headlights are TruckLights non-heated LEDs.

Now the client has requested a few things. #1 no headlights that are to bright so he gets flashed constantly, as a result I have them adjusted pretty far down. And #2 no big bro LED bar, in particular because when he uses it he does not want that few seconds of his eyes adjusting from the laser beam on to it off.

So that is what I have tried to achieve here.

New heater controls, switch, ect. Thanks @beno for the right part numbers!

View attachment 1815627

Hunting for seat belt info... found this...

You don't happen to have the part number for that control unit do you? I've got the AC only one as well... and a heater core to into my truck... but I'd love to have the Heat/AC control unit.

Bumping the build thread.

Other Cruisers have been taking up my time but the PZJ70 is back in the shop for the final round. Errrrrr, mostly anyways.

Got to finish up the speakers and wire up the rear light. Not much else besides testing. Going to take it for a good drive though, get shocks tuned on-road and off.

There is something on the horizon for this truck and that is an engine swap. :grinpimp:

Cheers
