This was new to me, I had google it. If I’m reading this right it’s not for my engine. Mine (non stock) uses a serpentine belt, correct me if I’m wrong.

It lasted maybe ten miles. Oh well, I’ll try the new belt. The one one there has probably 2-300 miles, but it was whatever they had at the parts store that day. Maybe I just got a bad belt? Just waiting on the fancy one to get here…

This is not what shackle bushings should look like.
As you can probably detect from the pic below it was making an awful noise turning right
When I did the frame repair/boxing, the exhaust ended up pointed toward the shackle. This also resulted in exhaust fumes in the cab. The correction got delayed and this is where we were.
Because this truck is a a learning curve in home hackery (and lifted), the perches are not perfectly aligned. The ratchet strap pulled the springs into position and aided in the two-handed reassembly.
See the cool red bushings, I hear those add 15hp.

Last winter I took the swing outs of the rear bumper to help with weight distribution on steep ledges when we went to Sand Hallow. I think it helped…
I got kinda lazy about putting them back on. Recently realized I was driving around without a license plate, oops. That lives on the cooler arm. They’re back on along with the rear seat, so the whole fam can a ride along again. Gotta get the rear seat belts to extend again though….
Tried the belt dressing to help with the chirp. It kinda worked, sometimes. Now it comes and goes. Occasionally it’s softer, but mostly it’s worse. New belt comes Tuesday. I better. Clean the pulleys again.

Hey man you probably need a new tensioner assembly, not just the pulley. And if you do get a new tensioner, when it comes to LS parts, you usually get what you pay for. So try to get a quality one.

New belt gets here tomorrow, we’ll see… The tensioner is brand new. But it could be low quality. Thanks

Got a brand you like? Belts here, but I’m not gonna get it on til Friday at best. Still hoping it’s the cure…

Probably like gates, acdelco, dayco etc. Probably even the parts store brand like duralast would be fine. Its more the ultra cheap no name ones on Amazon that are kind of a gamble.

New belt is on. I have been driving it and what a difference. It’s a pleasure to drive now. Before all I could hear was the belt chirping. This leads me to believe I got a “bad” belt the last time around. Bummer but small price to pay if it fixes the issue.
BUT- I let the kid drive today and he is still learning to drive a clutch. He tends to hold the rpms a higher than needed. When he holds the revs up I think I can hear the chirp coming back!!! I’ll run it over the pass tomorrow, that should flush it out…

It’s definitely chirping- better but not fixed completely. Seems like it doesn’t start getting noisy until 2300 rpm. I guess I’ll try another tensioner. As I recall I bought whatever they had at O’Reilly’s when I was down in St. George. Maybe it was the bargain stuff, I don’t recall.

Belt chirp seems to be gone for the time being. New belt is broke in??? I don’t know, but it’s fun to drive again. Speaking of which, with gas so expensive, I’ve haven’t been commuting in it. Wife drives it more than me…
As to work done- two small victories. Battery hold down straps kept snapping- cheap parts store stuff. Got tired of it being Jerry rigged, so I made one out of some scrap steel. Simple, but should be effective.
Second thing was the rear seatbelts, it’s not exciting, but necessary. The old ones stopped unreeling, so off to the pick n pull. Took a while to find something that fit the bill, but Nissan Pathfinder rear belts fit the bill. No pics, but we’ve all seen seatbelts.
