Pushing up the ac drier out of harms way

91s 92s and some 93 came with them from the factory with them mounted up next to the battery.
For awhile we could also get a JDM kit and it’s all factory inside the bay. Did that like 15 years ago after blowing it on the trail.

That’s a mod that opens up real options on front end clearance.

Or design the bumper to sheild it...

That saves the drier but cuts down on departure angle big time.
Agreed, and while I've scrubbed the bottom of the wing, I haven't ripped off the dryer.
And the scrubb marks are so much easier to repair. "rattle rattle..spritz"

It’s an issue of how hard you wheel - you can’t get the front end up on a lot of obstacles with a pronounced front bumper.

To the extent you are focused on trail performance, full coverage bumpers add a lot of weight that is difficult to compensate for in suspension performance while also costing clearance.

That’s not a critique, it’s just not as simple as covering it up or pushing it up in all cases. Anyway here’s a picture of not having your air conditioning outside of the vehicle. It’s hard to unsee once you’ve seen it and never have to think about it again.

My 93 US 80 had the drier at the battery. My 94 jdm has it hanging low.

Sticking this link in thus thread for the parts to swap to the battery position.

Is Coolstream still involved with Mud?

I did mine parked at camp. Thanks for the inspiration and confidence @Outsane

I had a line starting to kink and I massaged it with some vise grips to keep it open and not collapsed. No leaks, A/C still works the same.

I experimented with cutting and folding the mud guard to make a little better coverage rather than zipping the bottom off. The guard is still hanging too low for my liking now and I’ll tuck it up higher another day. Slee shortbus bumper almost totally covers it now and I didn’t modify my turn signal housing.

It took some doing, but it's well tucked now. There's a joke about Eddy Murphy in there somewhere...

Anyway

(And before anyone mentions these items... 1) I'm tearing down the whole system and the oil all over the place is the old compressor oil. 2) The power steering cooler is hanging there because I'm also replacing it. The new one is a small transmission cooler in front of the rad, but I need longer hoses... I'll also be ditching the PO's worm clamps!)

Here’s what the JDM relo kit looks like - this is factory stuff. The dryer outside of the engine compartment had zero purpose.

And then to have the entire front end design premise of aftermarket parts to follow. What a fail.

:jawdrop:But where do you keep your oil bottles?!

Or maybe your ACIS (Automatic Corrosion Inhibiting System) isn't working as hard as mine...

Yup

Need a battery tue down? I have an extra
Appreciate the offer, my radiator core is slightly…modified.

A nice lady pulled in front of me as she was turning left when both her light and mine turned yellow. I turned to avoid her, she never looked. Little Mercedes couple, hit her just in front of the passenger door, amazing how that little car held up given the tank that hit it. That’s why the rest of my tube bumper no longer exists, and it was a damage multiplier and also pinned the tires straight when it pushed down so I couldn’t turn. Almost went off a 6’ concrete wall, saved my a metal gate.

Anyway, the point of this is that used pullers and a hand winch to straighten stuff out, the frame contact of the bumper got scratched, and most importantly my AC drier survived intact with it’s critical relocation parts. The radiator core is not perfect so I just have the battery strapped down - it stays where it’s supposed to and is just part of the story now.
