I need some input on removeing the 14 head bolts.
I have used an electric impact, breaker bar.I am going to add anti lock to the bolts don't no if this will work because the bolts are 6" long .

Ideias?:bang:

Thanks Chance

Your trying to remove the head bolts right?

Electric impact doesn't work. Right?

Breaker bar doesn't work. Right?

You want to use PB blaster. Right? Good luck getting it down to where it needs to be. Heat will probably not work either.

What you need is an air impact gun. Something more than 600 ft/lbs. I have broken a few bolts using the long breaker bar method. You will have better luck not breaking them with an impact gun.

Also try the electric impact and hold it on there for a 5 min. Sometimes it takes a while.

If all else fails you could try drilling a small hole through the head bolt just where the bolt shaft and the block meet. And try squirting some PB blaster down to the threads. Just don't go further than the top of the bolt. Needs to be a small bit though.

What ever you do don't break the bolt. That is going to be a royal pain in the ass.

broken bolt

I got all the bolts off BUT Yes one had to break Damm!!!!!!
It was the #1 bolt in the removal pattern right next to the thermostat, I bet i had a small leek thus rusting the bolt in place.

Ideias??

Thanks for all the help.

OUCH!!.....a PITA.....drill it out then retap...........when drilling go up in small increments, carefull and don't break a drill bit; just be patient and use new bits.......easy outs??? not much luck with them over the years

Yea the easyout is not so easy,Who ever named them should be forced to remove all the broken head bolts them selfs. I am off to get some new drill bits and a tap.

Thanks for all the help.

I have found Kroil (ask google) to be much more effective than PB Blaster. I remember back in the day when it was WD-40 for everything. Then I found out about the wonders of PB Blaster. It kicks ass over WD-40 (and liquid wrench). Imagine my surprise when I found that Kroil works even better than the PB Blaster. It makes a great cutting oil too. Glad you got the bolts off!

X2 on Kroil oil.........never again a broken stud after using it.........letting it sit then using stud remover and impact hammer......just my 0.02
