Well the winch has had a serious workout this Easter Weekend.
I entered my first competition, a teams event over 24 hours.
Basically 11 teams of 3.
13 tracks.(a couple timed tracks)
Who ever does the most tracks in 24 hours wins. And if all the tracks are done before the 24 hours you start again.
We went around twice !
If two or more teams do the same then the times come into play to determine the winners.
Back to the winch...
It never missed a beat, had some real hard pulls, very steep hills.
Did some double line pulls...
I will post some photo's and vids as they come to hand....
I still have to get used to the quirks of the toyota setup, especially with the auto.
I would like to hear what others do....
Especially when winching and driving....It seems the winch is a bit (very) slower than the wheels and in soft condition's the truck just digs it self down.
And if you winch only, trying to get it from N in the transfercase to L is a real art....if you want to add a bit of drive.
And even harder to get it out again when fully loaded up 20 m up a steep hill.
At the end of the day I learnt heaps (baptism of fire) and our team came 3rd out of 11 teams.

I have toyota pto fitted to the front of the lj70, standard with no gearing mods.
Yes it is very slow, but its also very strong. I would imagine for a competition this winch, although strong, would be too slow.
I usually just operate the winch with the main gearbox in neutral using the 1st or 2nd gear for the winch; this is a manual. However recently I have the main gearbox engaged so the wheels will also move. However, this is only for a meter or so before I stop and place the main gearbox back to neutral as the winch wire can go under the wheels.
Personally I am not keen on PTO's, however they are strong will eventually pull me out of trouble.

I am still learning PTO and also would like to read other posts.

Bit of an update....After the Easter run I planned on changing the bearings and discovered damage to the worm gear... Under hard winching and driving it would make all sorts of horrible noises.. I thought this was normal strain related sounds and just backed off a bit or dead winched. Also got a bit of oil smell from the winch.
It turned out I was using the wrong gear oil.
Since cleaning up the worm and using a better oil (Elf Reductelf SP680) I did a harder trip a few weeks back.. Sticky mud bogs... Winched and drove with no noises and smooth as silk.
Also no hot oil smell from the winch...
So very happy with the setup... Well worth the effort.

Is ur pto winch the same kind as 60series wagon?

Possibly. I no idea on the original vehicle the winch came from...except a toyota haha.
