PS Pump Rebuild Question - Flow Control Valve

I am fixing to rebuild my power steering pump and have a question about the phillips screw that screws into the flow control valve.

My rebuild candidate is missing this screw, so I will get a new one.

The screw is supposed to bottom out in the base that the spring sits on - correct?

Here is what I am talking about - see #7 - Flow Control Valve Ass'y in pics below. Pump I am rebuilding does not have these. I cannot see this location on the pump that is on my 40.

I just thought of something - is it possible that this diagram (pulled from my '78 FSM) is different from a PS pump that would be on a mid-80's PS pump?

None of my 60's have the screw in them.

The screw is used to pull the flow control valve out of the housing.

Here are some better pics of the base that the spring sits on/ The inside is sealed, so unlike the pic from a 40 PS pump, it looks like I do not need the screw shown above.

1- The slippers and springs on the rotor
2- Wear on the slipper
3- Bushing in front of housing showing uneven wear

The FSM talks about measuring the delta btwn the fixed ring and the rotor.

I am not sure I understand what they are talking about?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Does anyone measure the above mentioned delta when rebuilding their PS pumps?

Here's the instruction from the FJ60 manual. It looks like you are supposed to measure the differnce in the lengths of the fixed ring and rotor (rotor should be longer.

That measurement is why I chose not to bother with a rebuild on my pump. I had something like 0.025" over the acceptable 0.0024".
