Wasted more time on running boards.

probably for the best you cut down the running boards. I checked that junk yard yesterday and the vehicle was gone along with the rest of the old cruisers. Gone to the crusher. the only thing I could find in the yard was part of a 71/72 bench seat, broken short jump and a tunnel cover with a hole cut in it. I have been picking up these parts slowly for years and got all most all the good parts. there are now scraping out all the parts in the large storage shed. throwing third members out that had been stored on shelfs for years just being throw in to 55 gal. buckets. I did pick up the head, intake/exhaust manifold and valve cover for a FJ25. I need to go back and check on a flywheel I found, I think it's from the same FJ25.

Hood hinges with stainless pins.

Jim,

Did you rework those hinges? or are they new? I like 'em!!!
I have a set of hinges like those, they need some lovin', they have a lot of play
in the hinge pin.

Tony

The previous owner must have drilled them out to 5/16". So I used a 5/16" x 2 1/4" SS pin with a nylon washer to take up the slack between the hinge leaves.

Thanks for the info. I would like to "poach" that trick, if you do not mind.

Tony

I like that for my 45 as well. Anyone have a picture of what the original pins were? I'm pretty sure the bolts in mine are not OEM.

So how do you make later FJ40 seats fit a 25?

First you clearance the hinge and weld up a support on the back so it doesn't hit the fuel filler.

Next place it hits is the fuel sender, that's an easy fix. :hillbilly:

Then extend the front legs with a handy piece from a junk seat frame. :D

Drivers seat mount. Used the FJ25 rear seat mount (the bolt holes aren't slotted for adjustment) and had to reposition the front hooks for the clasps. The front edge of the box is about 9/16" further out so I welded the hooks onto a piece of bar stock that extends through the front of the frame.

I see you have been busy since your road trip.

Busy................but not on this.............. :)

How long do you think these should soak on acid before they completely disappear?

Jim,

I found that if I drill one grease fitting sized hole in the center of the pivot then hose the hinge pin area down with Kroil that I can get those things to free up. A couple love taps with a hammer can also get things moving along. Drilling a hole lets you get lube to where the problem is, give the rust chunks an escape route and then leaves a place to add lube later (I use - wait for it... - a grease fitting and grease :grinpimp:).

Nice work so far...
Nick

That's exactly what I was going to do Nick. :) Going on five days, they haven't loosened up any more.

Maybe I should have spent money on some rust free parts.
