Nice rig man!! Good find! What are your future plans? Mud is an awesome source of info!!!!

Nice pictures with the flat tires and abandoned look
Good luck with it and the mainenance will be expensive maybe because you need all of the filters/fluids but I think the airfilter is the most urgent one?

My plans are to maybe do a OME lift on it. New tires, get the interior back into shape, give it new paint. In the future install a 5 speed.
Teach my daughter how to drive stick so she can use it for the summer. :)
Which i am sure she will take it away from me and never return it. she has loved all my rigs i have owned.

Thanks i like those abandoned look also and then the after photos.
Yeah, i am aware of the cost associated with these rigs. :frown: Its like eating really hot sauce. it burns but you just add more to it.
Cruiser you know they are expensive but you seem to continue doing it.
it is a madness you cant stop.

Going to power wash the engine compartment today. photos to follow.

Funny story;
I went to my local Toyota dealer yesterday to pick up a fuel filter for her. and as i was leaving there was a couple in front of me test driving a Prius. i look up and the wife sitting in the back seat rolls down the window and shouts out as she is pointing to my Cruiser " I want you car, is it for sale?" i smiled back at her gave her the nod no it is not for sale. she had a look of disappointment as they drove off and she kept looking at my rig. all she could do is wave goodbye. i thought it was classic and funny to see.
Seems the husband wanted the prius more then she did. LOL!!

Dusty update

So it has been awhile since I last posted anything or made any upgrades to my 85 fj60.
I had bought an entire interior set from a guy in PA. Dash board, seats etc!
was shipped to Bakersfield and I finally got around to picking it up.
I quickly unpacked everything and started to get busy. door panels, front seats, rear seats, steering wheel, dash pad.....etc.

the accumulated dust after removing the old and cracked dash pad.

I decided to paint the cluster surround. tape it and shoot some paint.
during the break down I also took the plastic glass from the dials and used some Muguirres fine compound and removed all the scrathches and fogginess. boy did they come out nice. also dusted the dial off with a detail brush. Pics to come on those.
Will add more pics of New dash installed, and carpeting, plus door panels.

:bang: Argg!!! during the transfer of Factory radio and air vents, i walked outside the garage to get something. walking back my shirt caught the corner of dash and it fell!! Made a crack on the passenger side corner!! not happy at all.
dash cracked.jpg

After a timely cool down from that event i ripped out old carpeting and installed the new carpeting from donor truck that came from PA.

This is the final results! Always gratifying to see progress! ;p
I was amazed to see how well kept these seats, door panels, carpeting, steering wheel and the dash prior to me knocking it down :frown: where in such great shape!
Unfortunately, the rear carpet was torn and tattered, so it wasn't usable. rear side panels nee to be cleaned and installed will do that on the next go around.

Here is the cluster after paint and the plastic glass cleaned up i can actually see the dials and the gauges. :D

Looks great! So that's what a non-torn drivers seat looks like... Never seen one, looks comfy. Keep on keeping on my friend, you're building something special!

Hi, Looking good . Nice to see the cruiser being brought back to life. Mike

So today I figure I get in and do the oil galley. On my 84.
Wasn't so bad, got all tools together removed a few parts and Walla it was done. Now I can drive with a piece of mind it won't pop out.

Nice work - truck is looking good!

Great story and photos - thanks for rescuing another FJ60! Great compression numbers, IMO - a nice bonus.

great find

also if panels in the rear are not replaced yet make them out of plywood 1/4" and then you can start making spots to attack your gear too, like flash light and other randow crap.

again good looking truck

cheers

Thanks chappysfj40, yeah i have been contemplating what to do with the panels i have two sets. the originals the backing in good shape but the coverings are faded as well as the piece of carpeting.
the other set backing is cracked and have big 6x9 speakers. wanted to keep it original. but i like the idea having more room stuff!
my next thing to tackle small but effective is to replace the rear squirt er hose for the rear lift gate. Just like to know the little things work. aside from the more important things.

Today I decided to work on the rear lift gate wiper squirter. I push the bottom the other day to see if the little pump works. I heard the pump doing its thing then I saw water coming from the headliner at the rear. So that told me that the supply hose is cracked and or broken.

I go ahead and pull out all the hose line and this is what I found old dried and broke hose .
Note when you replace this hose they will have two connectors one is a coupler (which broke when I pulled it) the other is a check valve on the passenger side inside the lift gate frame. This only goes one way so that the hose does not empty out when not in use.

So I run over to the local fish store and pick up 20ft of 1/4 air hose. I used it In the past and it works great.

image-396648772.jpg

I tried finding the old hose to use a fish line but I couldn't get to it. So I used some wire that I had Latin around that I use for staking poles to newly planted tree.

image-956272143.jpg

I made a loop at one end the wire to as I fish it through it won't get caught and also so I can thread the hose through it and tape it. I also used electricians grease for pulling wire makes it whole lot easier.

image-2611184902.jpg

I pulled it in two sections . I fished the wire through the rear cargo light to the driver side where the resivior bag is. Pulled tubing out the rear cargo light then separated it from wire. Then fished fish wire through the hole at passenger side of rear door and came out the rear cargo light where I attached the tubing again to the wire And continued fishing it through the second hole on the rear door itself. Remember to also at this time fish through the rubber grommet that connects from the body to the rear door

image-956272143.jpg

Once you fished everything attach tubing to the squirter and to the pump. And before butting everything up. Turn the key and push rear washer button and make sure no leaks. And tot done. New tubing and fresh windshield washer fluid to clean the rear glass.
