Question, didn't read through all the pages but I have an 04 lx. Only came with one key that I assume is master , has Lexus emblem on it. I just bought an aftermarket let on eBay and programming for the doors worked fine. I found programming to start it but unsure if I try and I don't do it correct or it doesn't work, will it mess up the current key I have. Called Sewell and he said it could make where both keys don't work if it's already been programmed. eBay seller had reputable reviews so need advice....should I try it or just use for unlocking if my keys get locked in????

"Any" key you have left is the "master" key. Hence if you have one functioning key, and it is working, you can use that one to erase all the other keys in the ECU (or rather module(s) that controls the lock and immobilizer), as there is a maximum of 4 keys that can be programmed into the unit(s).
So in case it does not work, erase the (non-existing) keys, you are left with your one fucntioning key, and go ahead and program your new key. Voila, you will have two working keys.

Does the red security light go out as soon as the key tip is in the cylinder ? If the light stays on for 1-2 seconds when your key starts to go in then the key is not a master and you will not be able to program new keys with it. If the light goes out instantly then you are good to go. At least that is how it works on a 2000 land cruiser

I tried a couple programming sequences and no luck getting key to start the lx. It works fine for doors. Called a locksmith out today and he couldn't get it either. He didn't have the computer though. Said I needed to take to dealer but my dealer says they will not program an aftermarket key?????

Go diligently and make sure you follow EVERY step to the letter. As far as I can remember, had to do it two or three times before I got it to work.
I think I still have a cut but "unrecorded" transponder key that's been laying around for some 10+ years. Maybe I should try try that one later in the week.
It could of course also be the key(s) you purchased and that the chip inside is not compatible with the LC/LX.

As for master/non=master key (post above yours by "Scubajon"), you really have no way to determine which key is Master (or not). It is just that if you use "a" key (any key...) to clear out all the other keys, then that key becomes the "de facto" Master.

possible to have too many key as master clear them out first

I have never done it so I cant say for sure.

From the way it reads if you use a master key then it will clear all the other keys and leave the one that is the ignition as the only programed key.

After you do It I may have to try it lol my blanks will be here this week

Not sure if I'm brave enough to try lol

I may wait for you haha

my keys came in and I had no problems programing them and having a key shop cut them for 10 bucks. I did not have to clear the memory :)

I used the key that shut the security light off instantly and now that one and the 2 other new keys all turn it off instantly on contact with the cylinder.

So what sequence did you use?

The same one I posted a few posts back in this thread Basicly tap gas and brake at the same time insert master push gas 5 times push brake 6 times remove master, Put in new key hit gas 1 time wait till sec light goes out in about 80 sec. Remove newly programed key tap brake.

Insert newly programed key to see if sec light goes off.

Then it gets fun. took the 2 programed keys to the local hardware store they said they dont want to risk doing it go to joe blow lock smith.

So I take it to the recommended shop they look at the key and say that original key is funky it should have 10 ridges on it. Well if it works I guess we can copy it. So they cut them. I tried them both in the drivers door and ignition both ways and they worked. I had my dog with me and we stopped at the park and I could not get the damn key out of the ignition. I was kind of hot and went to start the car to go back to the lock smith and when it would not start realized I had not put it in park :) put it in park and they key came right on out lol.

Transponder Key Programming

I bought this replacement key for a 1998 LX. I took a few pictures of my current key and sent them over. Couple days later, my pre-cut key showed up. It fit perfectly and with a little trial and error I was able to program the key and buttons.

Bought this key: "PRE-CUT" DIY PROGRAM 3 BUTTON FOB REMOTE KEY with RED BUTTON Listed models 03-P

Followed the directions on Mud for adding a second key

This procedure worked for me. Found on another forum (Remote master key programming for LX470 - Club Lexus Forums)
The main difference is that I used the manual lock button by the door handle and NOT the electronic button. That's when it finally worked.

HERE ARE THE SPECIFIC CORRECT INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROGRAMMING YOUR LEXUS LX THREE BUTTON KEYLESS REMOTE. MARKINGS ON THE BACK OF KEY ARE AS FOLLOWS: FCC ID-HYQ1512V CANADA: 1551 102 539 RSS-210 DENSO

1. SHUT ALL DOORS. FROM OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE, USING MASTER REMOTE KEY, LOCK ALL DOORS, AND THEN PRESS UNLOCKS BUTTON ONCE TO UNLOCK DRIVER DOOR ONLY. OPEN DRIVERS DOOR, SIT IN SEAT, PUT MASTER KEY ASIDE. KEEP DRIVERS DOOR OPEN..ALL OTHER DOORS MUST BE SHUT.
2. PLACE NEW KEY IN THE IGNITION (DONT TURN IT) AND THEN REMOVE IT. (THIS SOULD ONLY TAKE YOU JUST A COUPLE SECONDS TO PUT IT IN AND PULL IT OUT).

WITHIN 40 SECONDS

3. MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER DOOR 5 TIMES.THIS IS ACTUALLY 10 MOVENTS OF THE LOCK BUTTON ITSELF. MANUALLY MOVE THE LOCK BACK AND FORTH..DONT USE THE ELECTRONIC BUTTON ON THE DOOR ARMREST. SOME INSTRUCTIONS TELL YOU TO USE THE ARMREST BUTTON TO LOCK/UNLOCK ELLECTRONICALLY BUT I DID IT MANUALLY AND IT WORKED FOR ME. INTERVALS BETWEEN LOCK AND UNLOCK SHOULD BE AT LEAST A SECOND DONT DO IT TOO FAST.
4. CLOSE DRIVERS DOOR AND RE OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. SIT IN SEAT.

WITHIN 40 SECONDS

5. AGAIN MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DRIVERS DOOR 5 TIMES. (TEN MOVEMENTS OF THE TOGGLE).
6. INSERT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION. TURN TO ON FOR ONE SECOND THEN TO OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY. (IF YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING PROPERLY TO THIS POINT THE LOCKS WILL THEN LOCK AND UNLOCK BY THEM ONCE TO TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE SELECTED ADD A KEY MODE.)

WITHIN 40 SECONDS

7. SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESS AND HOLD KEY LOCK AND UNLOCK FOR A MAXIMUM OF 1.5 SECONDS. (THIS IS WHERE MOST PEOPLE GO WRONG IF YOU HOLD BOTH BUTTONS DOWN TOO LONG .3.4.5.SECONDS.YOU HAVE MESSED UP THE PROCEDURE AND WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO START AGAIN FROM STEP ONE!!!)
8. WITHIN 3 SECONDS OF PRESSING BOTH BUTTONS IN STEP 7 PRESSES ANY KEY BUTTON FOR A MINIMUM OF 1 SECOND.

9. CLOSE DRIVERS DOOR PLACE KEY IN IGNITION AND START VEHICLE TURN OFF VEHICLE AND REMOVE KEY. (CLOSING DRIVERS DOOR AND INSERTING IGNITION KEY EXITS THE PROGRAMMING MODE) LOCKS SHOULD OPERATE PROPERLY WHEN PRESSING LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTONS. IF NOT START OVER.

NOTE: IF SYSTEM LOCKS AND UNLOCKS TWICE BY ITSELF AFTER STEP 8…PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED.START OVER.

HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL BASICALLY MOST PEOPLE WERE HOLDING DOWN LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR TOO LONG IN STEP 7. DO IT QUICKLY .MAXIMUM 1.5 SECONDS. ALSO COUNT THE LOCK/UNLOCK TOGGLES CORRECTLY.

I am still in shock that in about 20 minutes and for $48 I have a fully working second key. I don't know why I waited so long.

smltwnst100 What year is your Cruiser? Buried somewhere in this thread I posted information about 03-04 not having onboard programming. Here is the link

This is what I wrote:
The 03-04 years have to have a tool to program the keys... i.e. no onboard programming for these years, pretty sure this was corrected in 05 & later. In 03 the chip in the key was changed for better security, and for some reason the onboard programming was dumped (confirmed by Toyota key programing fsm) I found this out through lots of research trying to program my 03... and Somewhere in this thread I posted info for the most detailed programming I found.

The alternative to this is you can now go to some hardware stores and have your working key "cloned", this essentially makes all your keys look like the same key to your Cruiser. But have not heard of any bad side effects of doing this... unless the guy cloning it is shady and makes one for himself.

Ok, trying to figure out how to add a 2nd/3rd key for a 2004 LX.

All of this done via Techstream I assume, but I can't get the immobiliser part working. Any ideas??

Wireless (aka unlock/lock via fob) via the Body Live section was a few clicks and you're done.

The immobiliser live key registration isn't working, it's timing out. Clearly I'm doing something wrong, noticed in the thread some folks have said something changed in the 2003-2004 where you have to go to dealer for LC...is this the same for the LX? I'd rather not spend $55 on getting them to link up my key. Repair manual refers to Lexus Hand Held, should work

I thought you couldn't initiate the "delete all keys" function with a sub key, only a master.
