Price Negotiation

Thankfully here at SETF we are family when you lease with us, by essentially locking you in an a non-compete agreement if you choose to sell your lease at any time.

Seriously though they have contract lingo that essentially forces you to only sell/buyout the lease from SETF dealers only.
My response to that has always been that it doesn’t add any value when I decide to trade or sell.

I was able to negotiate $3,000 off MSRP. The only dealer add on was the $599 caramic tint. I was looking for the Land Cruiser trim w/o premium package and 20” wheels. They didn’t have it in California and I found one in the build phase allocated for a dealership in Arizona ~350miles away. I’m happy with my purchase but I wouldn’t be surprised if you can get a better deal.

So have the people spoken will there be a v6 Landcruiser in the future? It seems you can't find a GX anywhere around here but Landcruisers are starting to slowly accumulate on the lots.

The landcruiser prado 250 will not get the v6 in the states. The GX550 will get a version of the LCP hybrid setup starting in MY25

Hi all,

Has anyone had success negotiating a lower price with dealers below TSRP? I'm not talking about negotiating any dealer markups, but the actual suggested retail price. I recognize how early it is and how popular these vehicles are, so guessing the probability of success is likely low but wanted to ask. If you have had success, what negotiation tactics did you use?

Thanks!
NicB
NicB,
I got a 1958 for $3300 under the MSRP and didn’t pay $600 for some film job they did. $800 fee though.

My brother back home sent me this pic.

Asked him how much they are listed for. I was shocked! I thought we were being duped here in the states. Turns out they want 91k euro in Romania! Wtf! I mean that is complete nonsense.

Perhaps tax related due to it being a large vehicle? I work with colleagues in the Nordics quite a bit and they've noted that larger SUVs are $$$$ compared to what they are for us here. Not sure if Romania is the same or not.

Romania is part of the European union. I have no idea what happens back there, since I've been here for close to 30 years now. You might be right though. Told my brother to stick to his current 70 and leave the 250 alone.

40 + Land Cruisers on the lot at groove Toyota in Denver. Not sure who is buying these. I’m sure you could negotiate a significant amount off the sticker price.

Looks like the Ford dealers here. Broncos piling up everywhere. Ford must still think it's 2021 and they can charge 15k over MSRP for one. The sugar rush from the early adopters is long gone. Toyota might be following their footsteps.

I've seen maybe 2 LC250s and 0 GX550s on the road here in the Midwest.

The Ford dealers near me are advertising $5-$8k off sticker on Broncos right now. ($13k off Raptors!) I know of a couple that will sell at invoice if you order thru them.

The 550’s are becoming more and more prevalent around me as well. Moreso than the 250. I see a 250 here and there, but they are starting to accumulate on dealer lots. Mostly 1958 trims… the upper LC trims seem to be fewer and far between right now.

The 2 St. Louis area dealers seem to be getting 4-5 at a time and it appears they are all mostly already taken as they come in. Toyota dealers locally seem to be in the same boat.

Spirit Lexus here has had 2 ‘used’ ones for $96 and $98k.

In addition to my OT+, there are two others near me I see when I’m walking the dog.

I think at least here it still feels like availability is at a trickle. I’d imagine Lexus / Toyota have allocated tons more to those markets with a history of LC enthusiasm, and that’s what you’re seeing as the early buyers have already gotten theirs.

Also, let’s not dismiss the notion that perhaps casual buyers are hesitant to spend this much w the unknown impact he who shall not be named may have on the economy.

Toyota does seem to shaft some dealers with few allocations and the process seems opaque. We ran into that with our Highlander Hybrid. Smaller dealers would get almost no allocations, so we ended up getting it from Bommarito, who was consistently getting them.

Let's face it, the STL area is not import country. My theory is that it being an old union town with each of the Big 3 having a plant still keeps folks buying domestic, outside of some upper-income areas.

90% of the cruisers for sale at this Denver dealer are 1958spec.
Looks like $3200 off msrp.

We were looking at Bronco Sasquatch 4 doors a year ago when leases were $300 less per month. Now Ford has got them at only $20 less than a 1958. Not playing that game. I waited until a month ago to sit in a 1958, and the rear seat room is far superior to the Bronco.

Dealers in bigger cities seem to have more 1958s sitting. This just shows that the market for a “basic” 70 series type rig is as weak in NA as Toyota thinks it is. Once you’re north of $50,000 it seems people want leather and a moonroof. I’m just waiting for a call from my dealer as I will be trading my 5.7 and 8 mpg Tundra in on the first un-black 1958 they can get.
