I swear, I saw some of the worst driving, and worst everything else from these kids on the trail.
Not only were their vehicles a little too under-prepared (because they were stock or worn out, not because of the jokes about Jeeps) - but these guys attempted everything wrong.
Don't they have a Jeep Trail Team?
I wish I was filming or remembering to take pics. I saw the black Jeep high center himself repeatedly on his transmission when the red Jeep guy was spotting him.
There's many lower branches on this trail, and one kid was riding, standing up with his hands on the factory roll bar.
The black Jeep gets stuck on a section with right before a short incline. I watch as the other Jeep kids get behind him to rock and push him and scream "FLOOR IT" to the driver. Needless to say, they each get sprayed with dirt and gravel and larger rocks as they run for cover.
Red Jeep pushes black Jeep like bumper cars with their rear tires....right into a boulder twice the size of the Jeep. Red Jeep gets so frustrated, he just HAS to try to drive around the black Jeep with about 1/8" to spare at a 30 or so degree angle. Had I not stopped this, and explained how this would not only severly damage them both, but once in front of black Jeep, I'd still have to pull him back away from the giant boulder before he could make forward progress.
Red Jeep is the only one with a winch. In one of his winch attempts, I see him run the cable up into some trees and the back to the black Jeep. I'm not even sure which truck he's trying to move with the winch this way - but I assumed he had a pulley block in there somewhere. - Nope. He ran the metal winch line up into the brush, around a 1" diameter tree trunk and back to him. I almost wish I could say these kids were drunk, and that is why they thought this might work.
Its pretty much guaranteed if I hadn't agreed to run out their with these guys that there would be 2 broken and stuck Jeeps abandoned on that trail somewhere. I don't in anyway profess to be some super trail / recovery know-it-all, but its SHOCKING to see the messes people can get themselves into when they don't know anything.
I really felt like I was watching the filming of some "What not to do on the trail" video.
I'm so greatful to have learned the things I have about wheelin and recovery methods from Mud, ExPo, and FJ Trail Team guys.
