What is the best, least expensive Head/Cam combo ??

I think I am going to purchase a new head and cam for my '85 4R 22RE Daily Driver (weekend warrior). EngineBuilder seems to be the cheapest for the heads, but what are the performance differences between the 20R and 22RE heads ? As far as cams go, I understand the general specs but not sure how they effect gas milage and smog checks. I read a comparison of the D.O.A. C270 and the TRD #1 (crane) but I know there are other cam profiles available. Does anyone have hands on experience with multiple set ups for comparison ??

I've run a pair of DOA heads. One in my 85 xcab (sold), the other in my 4Runner (complete DOA motor). The xcab had the TRD (Crane) cam. The 4Runner has the DOA C270.

The TRD has better top end and pulls to 5000rpm very easy. Low and mid-range are acceptable.

The C270 is more friendly on the street and off-road. A little bit better low end, and I think stronger than the TRD in the middle (2700+/- 200). It will pull to 5000rpm, but not as easy as the TRD.

What it comes down to is how you will use the truck. I liked both cams. They were a significant improvement over stock. I have had no problem passing smog with either.

I have the LC street head/cam. Love it and real improvement over stock, pulls hard (for a 4banger). I vote LC or engnbldr.
