Does that mean the pads and rotors are proprietary to Power Brake and not available anywhere else?
Yes, that's correct. Well, I can get them for you as well as any dealer, but they're made by Powerbrake.

Are they stocked in a warehouse in Charlotte, or is there a showroom where I can go and look them over?

They're all stocked in Charlotte. We don't list all the replacement parts online.

I'm not sure if they have a showroom, but they have an office and warehouse there.

Call them before you show up, as they travel to a lot of shows and may not be there all the time. 704.804.2438

I would have to double check but I believe the literature that was included with the kit does cross reference brake pads by other manufacturers as possible replacement options.

FYI;

I just got the Toyo823 kit fitted which is for 16” wheels.

OEM wheels DO NOT fit. As mentioned earlier in the thread, a spacer will be required to use OEM or similar wheels. I am not sure a 1/4” is enough, if it is it will be very very close.

I also test fit some generic steelies with 4.5” backspacing, no go.

It’s not the diameter or even backspacing that’s a problem, it is wheel design and dish of the wheel at hub mounting surface.

I did try some Raceline 17” beadlocks with 4.75” backspacing and no issues. I also tried some SCS 16” with 3.5” b/s and they also fit no issues.

I also had to grind the knuckle a touch so the PB mount cleared it, this is different than the grinding mentioned in the instructions which wasn’t required.

Cheers

Does anyone have the correct part # for Powerbrake pads with these? The diagram above mentions 2 options but online both of them (5001-PB01 and 5001-PB05) are stated as NOT working for the 16in kits. I also see no part # for rotors.

Is anyone able to provide?

These are the pads:

I don't have the PN for the 16" rotors. I'll find out on Monday.

That diagram that was posted was before the 16" kits were offered.

I assume these PowerBrake kits install the same way as OEM, meaning they do not slip on over the hub; they require partial hub disassembly just like OEM and the studs thread into the rotors? I think I see threaded holes in the rotors like stock rotors.

Exactly how big are the 17" rotors?

@crikeymike do you sell the X-line replacement rotors and pads as well? I didn't see them on your site.

Yes I do. We don't list the rotors because only verified owners of the kit can buy them. Pad link is a few posts above.

17" brake specs are all on the link in post 1.
13.7″ x 1.34″ 72-vane discs

Brakes install in the same position as OEM.

Looking at this upgrade…..currently have 16” Mickey Thompson wheels (old Baja Lock that are NLA). I plan on going to 17” wheels/35” tires in the future. Not sure if it would be worth getting this upgrade now only to go to a bigger wheel/tire size in the future. Buying twice/crying twice is not my thing IF I can help it. Bummer about no rear brake option, why is that? Too complicated with the parking brake?

I've had these on mine for about 3 months now and it's a big improvement, both in driving on the road and off road. My 80 is pretty heavy w/ drawers, fridge, rack, heavy bumpers, M12 winch, etc and they improve the stopping power a lot. I've done a bit of wheeling with them too and they do a good job with providing more control and power when driving with two feet. I felt they were necessary with the frequency of people cutting me off and hitting their brakes, the stock brakes are just aged out for the way mine is setup. The power comes on controllably and they'll throw everything in the car forward without a ton of leg effort. I live in the mountains and have no issues with fade, overheating, etc even when doing a lot of 2 footed driving offroad. I can control the car offroad really well with them while power is applied ~1200-1300rpm and modulate everything well.

That said, they won't overcome the limitations of the booster/MC and old ABS. The power is vastly improved, but you will not get the touchy sensitivity of braking systems with accumulators or that are more modern. That's not a fault of the Powerbrake system, just the way the stock brake system is. They still have a bit of a throw to the pedal to get full power.

I haven't had the 17, so I can't compare, but the 16 I've had for a few months has been great. The only real beef I have is that getting a bleed hose on the nipple to bleed them is kinda tedious. For such an expensive set of brakes, I'd have hoped for a more elegant bleeding solution (I do like the nipple is recessed though)

Yeah, too complicated and they would cost more than the fronts most likely. Even modern rear Toyota's with disc brakes, they aren't making them for those either because of the parking break and extra cost. People probably just wouldn't buy them.
