Replacing my power steering pump per the info here. Have it off and already swapped the gears.

Turns out my High pressure hose is leaking so good thing I got a new one of those.

The bracket bolt is hard to get to so I am first trying to remove the end on the gear box. I put a crecent on there and tried to use a bar for leverage to get it off, but having trouble and I don't want to break anything.

So tips on getting the hose off and the bolt on the bracket would be appreciated.

It's not obvious to me yet were the gasket, which is a little metal bracket goes either. Probably well be when I get the hose off.

I am taking pictures and well augment the writeup Dan created when I am done.

doesn't the end at the gear box a flare type fitting? Just hack off the metal tube close to the nut and use a socket.

Was thinking about that, just want to make sure I can get the new hose on correctly. But your right since I am replacing it, cutting this hose won't hurt anything.

Cutting and putting a deep socket did the trick.

Obvious I will need to take the skid plate off to get at the bracket.

Hopefully I will figure out the metal gasket when the hose comes out.

One daughter is dressed up for a High School dance and the other . . .

I will need to take care of this myself.

It is nice having a rust free truck :D

well if anybody wants to pull that line w/o cutting. remove the rubber piece in the inner fender and break it loose with a flare nut crowfoot wrench. Worked fine when I pulled that hose out to install the mile marker.

The gasket is a double aluminum washer connected by a bridge. That goes at the banjo bolt on the pump, and replaces the stock copper washers.

Makes sure you are using a 17mm FLARE wrench. Don't be cheating with a combination wrench or worse yet an adjustable. It should spin right out of there. I'd try and save the fittings, then a hose shop can make you up a new hose to carry as a spare.

It really helps to get the battery tray and the oil filter out to do this job, if you havn't already. And as Rick points out, if you need more muscle on the job, call one of your daughters and get out of the way.

Thanks Andy, I'll use a flare to get it back in

Did take the battery tray out. I didn't need to remove the oil filter. It's the small filter and using an extension I went under the filter and got the pump out already. Thats the Cdan method, and I had to call him to make sure I didn't need to remove the filter. Although removing it would have been easier, but I just put in $45 of Mobil 1
