I'm in Greenville and wanted to look into getting my OEM 16" wheels powder coated. Do any of you know a good place in town to talk to about this? I would appreciate any info. Thanks!

Nevermind. A quick google search did the trick. Should have done that before I posted.

Anyway, if somebody else is interested Apex Powder Coating in Greenville does just this. I was told it be $350 for all 5 wheels in a stock color. About $400 for a custom or ordered color. See the link.

Dang, for $400 bones you should get a powder coater and do it yourself. I had a whole box of little parts, about 30 pieces, done for $35 here in MB last year. A 15" rim will fit in a regular oven afterall.;)

Marshall's list

Steve why not make Marshall's list of upstate vendors that was in the above post a sticky lot's of good info there and easier to find. Just my .02 idea!

The $350 includes media blasting the existing finish off the wheels. I think that is the majority of the cost.

Wow! Perfect. That is a huge help to me. I will be needing exhaust work soon so I will check out the shop in TR. I work near Furman so that is perfect.

Also, when I do my 4.88 gears, I was going to pull the 3rd member myself and take it to Foothills 4x4 for them to set the gears up. Glad to see they have a good reputation as well.

Not sure who I talked to at Apex. The $350 is for all 5 wheels and includes blasting. Maybe the $200 was for 4 wheels and the price has gone up since 2006?

Thanks again.

If they are charging $150 for blasting, I would buy a $5 wire wheel and spend about an hour stripping them myself with a grinder. Just my .02.

Stripping 5 wheels in an hour with a wire wheel is flying!!!

If you have to have a totally raw surface for powder coating you could look at buying a handheld blaster if you already have an air compressor. Or, you can get a tank from somewhere like Harbor Freight for $100 or so. I've heard they aren't great but for small jobs might do the trick.

Could also check the other PC vender I suggested who might have a tank that might strip all the paint off and might be cheaper.:D

Also I wouldn't use a wire wheel to strip them. I'd buy a gallon of aircraft stripper and spend an hr. Gonna be a lot cheaper.

Your right, I was just thinking about the face. I guess you would want the whole wheel powdered.

I'll have to look into that stripper. Where do you buy it at?

Save the $ and spray bomb them easier to repair and they wont rust either way. They will get scratched even if they are PC.

I'm getting ready to pull my wheels and raddle can them. It will probably cost less than $20 when I'm done. Good point on raddle can vs powercoat unless you don't plan on wheeling.

Rattlecan is fine for crap you plan on trashing. But if he wants a really nice finish that doesn't peel off at the carwash then I'd get them professionally painted or PC'd

I've rattle canned so much stuff, I've gotten pretty damn good at it. However, I am thinking like you. I know folks have rattle canned the wheels and I have seen the paint flake off eventually. This is my DD which I will wheel. I need the wheel to look halfway decent and last so I am going to go powder coat.
