I just order some trail gear sliders for my pile. I hope they get here before the 20th! I can at least install the passenger side...

Nice. If I'm looking at the right site the price on those isn't bad at all. I don't see any specific to the 80, just for Tacomas. You just gonna make em fit? Those are weld on, right?

Yea, they are for a Tacoma. They are supposed to be weld-on, but I think I'm going to build them so they are bolt on.

I like little fab projects so to me it was worth the money I saved over a ready-to-go slider. We'll see if I feel the same way after working around the cats...

Right on. Sounds like a fun project. I have the OPOR metaltech style sliders on my 80 and the passenger side was a pain even with them.

This pic is representative of a lot of sections of Potts, and there are definitely some bigger obstacles as well.

I'm going to try and come out as well. What time is everyone rolling to the trail Saturday? I may have to leave from Richmond on Saturday morning.

I'm thinking leave town (Roanoke) by 10:30 or so? That's definitely flexible though.

How far away is the trail head?

About an hour. There are a couple forest service roads you can take to get to the trailhead that add 10+ miles of dirt and nice scenery to the approach, or you can come in from the valley and shave a few minutes off.

So let's say be at the trail head by 11:00 Saturday morning. That should give the Friday nighters time to wake up and get some breakfast and the Saturday morningers time to get to the trail head. I'm planning on heading down Friday afternoon, before Westbound 66 traffic heats up if possible. but if others want to go Friday but can't leave until later I'm game for that too.

If you're planning on going from NoVA post up and say when you can leave. Then we can figure out caravans and whatnot. I'll also have extra seats if anyone wants to just ride and camp.

I'll try to figure out a good Sat. am rally point. The trailhead is kinda tricky to find if you're not familiar with the Craig County back roads. Take a couple wrong turns and all you hear is banjo music...

A good way to get to the Upper trailhead is to take 311 to the top of Potts Mountain and then turn R onto the FS road at switchback. This takes you down a FS road for a ways past some tower sites and good views. You can also come in from New Castle via 615->609->611->617 and then turn L and head up the FS road until you hit the upper trailhead. For the folks coming in from the N on Sat. am there may be a good way to get to it off I-64 instead of taking 81 all the way to Roanoke and then heading back out 311. Running the trail top to bottom seems to be the better route, and the sweet camping field is about halfway in.
