The right upper corner looks really very empty on this RHD vehicle.
Therefore the other side is loaded too much.

Two batterie btw.

Ok I managed to get some additional pics of the motor area and also this is the best pic I have showing some frame area, let me know what you think bearing in mind I really at this point no nothing about these vehicles.

That is wierd.

I never heard of a BJ61. I have heard/seen lots of HJ61's though. That is definately a 3B.

I dont know that ive seen a high roof "safari roof" in a BJ before.

The wheel well flares, ive never seen that in exception to aftermarket fiberglass.

That truck has the larger 62 series mirrors.

The body and drivetrain look fairly clean (less rust then were used to) is it a SF rear end as well? Also, Ive seen those alloy wheels before, I think they are a common aftermarket wheel for that vintage from japan.

Either that truck was put together from other parts, or it is going to be fairly rare amongst 60 series.
I think thats a decent price for a rig like that, if its legit and you got the money snatch it up, but expect to go through it for maintenance, and that you will end up wanting to turbo it at some point.

Found on this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/559472-low-vin-1981-hj60.html, the site [www.buschtaxi.de] - The european site for Toyota LandCruiser, HiLux, 4Runner, Megacruiser...: Rahmennummern state that BJ61 has been produced 1982 and 1986.

Looks really like a 3B. It have some custom electrical jobs: Blue wires on top of the 2 batteries(my guess is they wanted 12V at some point), red wires running on top of radiator and a chunk of yellow wires near the driver side cowl/brake cylinder.

But it's looks clean. I do not think it have been "engine swapped" or custom built. Non North-American market got all sort of stuff never seen here.

I know 62 mirrors have been put on other 60 series prior to the 62, my Canadian HJ60 has them from factory.

Well I havent really heard anything bad about it yet in this thread so I guess the final question I would have then is this. For me to purchase this and have it shipped to me from its current location im going to be in it around 13,000 bucks. Is that reasonable? expensive? cheap? I mean based on everyones experience and expertise is this truck actually WORTH that kinda JACK????

Not worth that much to me, but I have access to JDM stuff up in canada.

For the US thats probaly not a horrid price, but I think its a bit high.

If your looking to buy a cool cruiser, then sure. If you want a really good deal as you may one day sell it looking to get your money back, then I would shop around a bit more first. :meh:

Being risk averse, for that money, I would look for something cleaner and with less indicators of potential rust. The body repaint. The integrated flares. The rust inside the front section of the frame rails. It all indicates that this truck may be hiding rust. Then again it might not. Before I would put that kind of money on the line I would need to see it. Bottom line, I would pass and find a nicer stock HJ61, even if that means waiting.

If you do to this link you can see some of the TLC's being sold up in BC right now. Prices are higher than what you are being quoted but then again the oldest one there is an 1988 for $16000 so it is in the right place dollar wise even in Canada. Most of these are Japanese imports with RHD. I did find some in Alberta at a lot lower price but they have been subjected to the Alberta winters whereas a truck from Japan is not going to have been through as harsh a winter as we in the US or even BC have. Also, trucks coming out of Japan are all inspected and you should be able to get an inspection report from your importer on the truck itself.

I think $ 12,000 is way too much!

Pros:
- high roof
- winch (you can alsways buy)
mileage of 100,000 (is it km or miles?)
- Japanese usually have a high technical standard when it is about road worthiness

Cons:
- BJ60s are usually low end (My BJ60 doesn't have power windows, power door looks, etc.), if high end get a HJ or FJ
- a RHD will sell cheaper than a LHD and not everybody wants the steering wheel on the "wrong" side
- condition is very average: exhaust seems ok but rusty surface, same with frame and under the hood.
- several thousands of bucks for shipping, customs, registration etc.

I am disappointed!
Both rigs are "Japanese", correct?

The rust is very annoying and you will have to paint it completely.
The leaf springs hang, need to be replaced as well, says maybe a lot about the rest of the car.

The pros are the clean engine and the under chassis but careful: maybe it has been cleaned only for the photos.

Ok guys brand new to the forum and I am in need of some expert opinions. I am looking at purchasing a 1985 Toyota Landcruiser BJ61V, this is a japanese import and its Right Hand Drive (KINDA COOL IMO). It is equipped with the 3b Diesel Engine and a 5 speed transmission, this thing is near spotless inside and out and its also equipped with a Factory PTO winch which appears to have never been used. My question is whats the skinny on a rig like this? I have been told it will get 25 to 30+ MPG??? What would be an expected price to pay?? Here is a pic I have of it let me know what yall think?

1st off. 30+ MPG is an exaggeration. At least for anyone that lives above sea level and drives faster than 30MPH.

On my 1985 BJ60 with an H55 and 235/75R15 tires I'd get 22.5 US MPG if I was driving at less than 100kph (60MPH)

Now that it's Turbo'd, running 285's and usually drivin at 120KPH (roughly 75MPH) I only see about 19 MPG (but I get where I'm going a lot faster)

12K for a low mileage, good condition Diesel 60 series is a good deal. Assuming there are no hidden problems you could easily drive it a 200,000 miles with only standard maintenance and still be able to sell it for 6-8K.

I dont know I have seen some pretty rusty stuff bringing in the 8 to 10 range and like that one posted above asking over 15 for, that makes me feel much better about the one im currently looking at and upon asking additional questions to my importer im to understand that there is 0 rust on the body as well as 0 rust under the fender flares that can be seen.....I dont know I suppose any 28 year old vehicle isnt without risk so this may just be one of those times where I need to gamble a little bit..

looks like a 3BII with rotary pump. It is a BJ61.

If you continue with these "fishing trips" to sell trucks your posts are going to go away rapidly.
