With my skid plate and sliders from Bump It Offroad expected to come in next week, I figured it would be a good time to prep for the installation since I had some free time this morning. I went ahead and removed the stock running boards and while I was at it I finally did the "spare tire mod" I've been wanting to do (thanks Mark for the hardware), and it didn't stop there. I trimmed my rear mud flaps too. Anyway, after finishing these tasks I was so stoked on how it looked that I decided to drive up the hill to the local 50's track and get some pics.....the first one shows the rear tire tucked up nice and the trimmed flaps as well. The rest, I was just having fun posing. :bounce:

nice! how much clearance did you get with the spare tire mod? parts list for hardware needed? been searching for a how to on this...with no luck. can you still access tire winch with bar without modding access hole? my 315s stick down way too much for my liking...

thanks!

Above is a link to a good thread that gives you the sizes of all the harware you need. I was given the hardware from a fellow "mudder" Who has a rear bumper with a swingout tire carrier and didn't need them anymore. I raised the bracket 2" but it seemed to raise the tire quite a bit more than that, the forward face of the tire that is. This mod really just levels out the tire as the rear face of the tire is almost as high as it can go already. I might have gained about a 1/2" in back but close to 3" in the front. Before the mod the tire was almost flush with the bottom of the rear diff. Now as you can see in the picture below, it sits level and is noticably higher. This is a real easy one to do. It took me less than an hour. Soak your bolts the night before with penetrating oil and they come right out. Good luck! BTW, my spare is a 33" MT for comparison sake.

I forgot to mention that I used just 3 bolts as spacers for the tire crank and it lined up perfectly...no mod to the hole required.

And don't forget the door edge trim to put on the seam for the floor pan. It will scar up the face of your spare tire.

Mark,
I did not have a problem with this as my spare is hitting the bar brace right behind the rear frame crossmember brace. So, I have a good 1/4" clearance between that seam and my spare.
