I am looking for help before I shoot my LX 470!!!

I purchased my 2001 LX 470 in March of 2017. The LX 470 had no known problems when I purchased it but, since I plan on keeping this LX 470 forever I took straight to my local Toyota dealership to get a baseline on all maintenance items.

From March to August the LX 470 wasn’t driven much because I was upgrading the stereo system during this time period.

In September the LX 470 developed a stall problem and it seems to be getting worse. At random times, normally while trying to accelerate from Red Lights Stops, it will shutter and stall when gas pedal is pressed.

My Toyota dealership has been unable to replicate the problem and the check engine light is never set.

Last night the LX 470 “luckily” stalled while backing into my driveway. So I had access to a handheld scanner and I was able to leave it shuttering while I grabbed the codes. It has P0172 – bank 1 to rich and P0175 – bank 2 to rich.

Below is my service history for the past two years and the engine is 100% stock other than a higher output alternator. New OEM Gas Cap, New Air Filter, air box is clean.

As soon as I cleared the codes, it ran fine again. 800 RPMs and no shuttering. But, the problem will eventually reoccur because it is happening more often.

Video #1 of stall issue (sorry but, I don't know how to upload the videos directly onto the forum)

iCloud - Loading …

I think you won't check engine lights until total trim is greater than 15 or 20%. I would start there. I would call a toyota guy. But honestly, I'd be looking for a vacuum hose missing or split open first, and then fuel pressure second. (if suspect, or easily measurable)

Bump for any other ideas before I get off work

Is that the correct Idle speed 484 rpm, seems abit low. If it was mine, I would do a quick check over and clean. Remove air filter and check, clean MAF, Clean throttle body, remove spark plugs and check each plug for burn and gap, check all vacuum lines and check the valve timing. There are no voltages on your O2 sensors, is your obd2 reader able to read this?

Just watched your video, It seems to be running very poor, I would add a compression test if your able to as the complaint started after a Timing belt. Are you driving it as it is?

It drives perfect 99% of the time with no missing, studdering or stalling. Then all of the sudden while accelerating from being at idle, it will go start doing this. Then you have to turn the engine off for about 30 seconds and it will crank up and drive perfect again.

IDK, if my obd2 reader can read the 02 sensors. I will hook it up again this afternoon while the LX 470 is running right and see what the scanner reads.

99% of the time my RPMs are 750 or greater. I don't get these low RPMs until it starts messing up.

This is the way it runs 99% of the time

I believe the same code reader does read the O2 sensors. So maybe my problem is that the CPU isn’t reading them sometimes?

Anyone know why I might be losing my 02 sensors at one time?

I am not going to say that I fixed my problem but, I replaced all my mini fuses and Detox the blade fuse connectors under the hood this week. I then drove around about 100 miles and with no problems.

Replacing the fuses, cleaning the fuse contacts, tightening the battery connections, replacing the spark plugs, replacing the alternator, replacing air filter, replacing fuel filter under the hood, cleaning the throttle body, cleaning the MAF, replacing the engine oil, replacing the timing belt and etc. haven't fixed this problem.

The LX 470 stalled on me again this weekend. It only does it while idling at a red light or idling down a hill with your foot off the throttle. You can only notice it stalling when you give some gas input.

what's your coolant temp sensor saying when it stalls? In your pics, both times it's at 187. Maybe coincidence.

Might be worth looking at your fuel pressure regulator. Make sure all of the connections are seated and look clean on your ECM. Go under the truck and give your silencers a bang on the sides, see if you can hear any broken up.

Thanks for the responses!

Jerry, the coolant temp sensor being the same is just a coincidence.

Julian, would you please give me a hint on where the fuel pressure regulator & ECM are located and what they look like?
