Im watching the Ramble thread (on Facebook of course) like a hawk and all I got is a bunch of 40 pics. None of the pig.

Same. @wct49 us letting us down.

Take a pass that one. I actually bought it from the ad but it wasn't what was represented when I got there. Guy was really nice and immediately refunded my money but 12 hours of driving for nothing.

So it is a you get what you pay for deal? Oh well. Out of curiosity, why do you think it changes hands so often? Badly built, rust or just one of those rigs?

I don't know when it changed hands last. The current owner has listed it several times over the last couple years.

How did it do JT? Work like you wanted it to?

She worked pretty well - flexed well, was extremely stable, and made it through most of the lines we pointed her at...a lot of it was just me getting used to it.

There are a couple of things that need to be addressed:

1) Steering - with the Detroit in the front and the Krawlers with little air pressure, the steering at low RPM was struggling...deja f'ing vu from the early days with the 40. I'd constantly have to bump the throttle just to rev it up enough for the pump to catch up. Most of the time I'd wheel in 2wd until we got to something difficult. FC gave me the history of the steering component choices yesterday and suggested replacing the assist ram with the larger PSC option and replacing the pump pulley with a smaller one that will generate more flow at lower RPM's. I'll be following those recommendations, of course. My only concern is that the pump whines (whined a lot) at full lock, and at least twice I lost power steering altogether...like it just locked up. I hope it's just air and that I didn't foul up the pump...

2) Seating - the previous owner must have been one tall dude...I sit real low in there. Although comfortable, visibility is a real issue. I'd like to see if the seats can be raised up some. There's a good 6 - 8" between the top of my head and the cage....maybe more.

3) Fuel gauge - it doesn't exist, and I ran out on the last day (almost...when I got it back level I was able to make it off the trail and back to camp). I don't even know if the tank has a sender in it, so that's the first thing on the list. Hopefully I'll find that it does have a working sender, and all I need is a gauge.

4) E-brake - again, doesn't exist. The rear brake circuit is routed through the cab...actually just under the left side of the driver's seat. Under the edge of the seat, within reach of the driver, is a proportioning valve and what is essentially a manual line lock. One of these. I'd never seen one before, but it's a really cool concept. Unfortunately, mine doesn't work (or I haven't been able to get it to work yet), so I was stuck hoping the truck wouldn't pop out of gear when stopped on an incline. I was constantly looking for a big rock to prop up against, and several times I just got Ginny to run the 40 all the way into the rear bumper just as a safety precaution.

5) Cooling - the TPI has a mechanical fan, but there's no shroud around it. I was a little concerned about potential heating issues before taking it out last week, so I added a bottle of water wetter to it just in case. It only got up over 210 once all week and that was on the long slow climb out of the bottom of Rubicon Ridge...probably got up to about 225 briefly before we got up to some higher ground with some cooler moving air. Overall, from an engine point of view, I'm not to concerned about it. I only mention it now, because I think a lot of the power steering issues I fought with the 40 were related to not adequately cooling the fluid (I'm tying this to issue number 1 above). The pig has a stacked plate cooler for the power steering fluid that should be up to the task, BUT I'm a little worried that the lack of a shroud could be causing a situation where there's not enough air being pulled across it. Still trying to sort this one out in my head...

Wall of text, I know, but you asked.
