I have the opportunity to swap my slee rear for a kaymar rear. The reason I am thinking of doing this is because I don't have a rear tire swing for my slee, instead I have a dual gas can and a 10lb propane tank holder. I also have a 38 gallon tank on my truck, so I don't really need the extra fuel cans!! I think I would rather have the tire mount outside and free up space from my interior ( where my spare is currently strapped down, very stripper pole like!!).

So, Pics and opinions welcome please!!

The Slee is a stronger bumper, could you just order a tire carrier from Slee or is it not as simple as that.

I do like the option of dual swingouts like the Kaymar and most others offer though.

My neighbor has the Kaymar by the way. He has never complained about it to me. Here is a pic of bumper. Sorry its a little fuzzy. It was raining that day on Hells Revenge. And its the only pic I have of the back of his truck.

I am satisfied with my Kaymar, but I'm not a rock crawler. A lot of talk on this forum about the inferiority's of this capable and stout rear bumper. The swingouts work fine. But there is a much bigger choice now, in bumpers, than when I got mine. If you get the right deal with the Kaymar and don't need a super departure angle, you probably won't regret it. Kaymars are rated pretty well in towing capacity, also. Some pics of mine shot today on an outing:

No complaints about my Kaymar (mostly for exped stuff though).
Just wish sometimes it had a 2 cans holder, ironically.

Here's one that sort of accentuates one of the Kaymar's poor points you might be concerned with and that's the departure angle. That said, I appreciate the stoutness because I also have the LongRange aux tank and it needs all the protection that it can get.

I'm not a hardcore rock crawler, mostly expedition stuff also, but don't usually back off of a good climb if it's there.

Looks like a standard Slee swing out that has been modified. Just call Slee and find out how much a new tire swing out would run you. My $.02 as I'd personally much rather have the Slee bumper.

Don't get me wrong, i'd rather have the slee too!! but having a new piece made will probably be about $800 and then shipping that thing to Canada, plus taxes, duty, brokerage etc. makes it not a very cheap move!! This is why I am giving the swap some thought!!

Thanks for the reply, I really like this set up!!

Only reason for me going Kaymar over Slee years ago was the towing capability of the Kaymar that Slee did not have at the time. Expedition stuff and I'm happy with the Kaymar.

Ok i know ill probably get flamed for this but ill let it out anyhow, imy rig came factory with a swingout tire carier (JDM unit) and i hate it. I dont know how many times i have had to yell at the kids/wife not to slam the damn thing every time they go into the back to retrieve somthing. Id actually perfer the under truck set-up. My .02

Plus, last week my wife got rear ended ........can tou guess what got pluwed in first??

how are the cans/ tanks attached? it almost looks like if you took them off, you could simply bolt on a simple tire mount and keep your awesome bumper. who knows? check out the pics on slees page. Slee - Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser - Rear Bumper Detail
especially the 16th one down. looks very much like your bumper.

Yes .. .. it is a standard slee bumper, with the gas/propane tanks instead of tire holder!! They are welded to the hoop... I'd have to grind them off. I have the tire holder part, but would need someone to weld the holder piece! I am not the welding type, so i'd have to pay someone to do it!! Then ... my cost goes UP!!

if thats the only thing holding you back , im sure there is a mud member out there that would weld that on for a  or two. if i was a lil closer i would help you out in a heart beat

That was a customer one-off some someone. If you don't want those carriers, just cut them off. We can probably supply you with the tire mount piece to weld on again. I would buy a cheap grinder with cut-off wheels and go to town. Then prep everything for a welder and get someone to just attach the tire mount piece.
